Re: Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabooks
o_O 11.6" Full HD? Jeez... I feel like a 17.3" FHD is already cramped... I can't even imagine that on an 11.6" screen!

Re: Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabooks
Should be interesting to see the pricing on this. This could put Acer back in the game if the display is decent and it has thunderbolt support for an external GPU.

Re: Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabooks
Acer confirms Aspire S7 pricing and availability
Chris Davies, Aug 10th 2012
Acer’s Aspire S7 will hit store shelves at the end of September, spending a few weeks with Windows 7 before being refreshed with Windows 8. The new ultraportable will be priced from £1,149.99 ($1,465) in the UK, Acer confirmed to SlashGear this morning, with an Intel Core i5 Ivy Bridge processor and 128GB of SSD storage.
There’ll also be 4GB of RAM and the new “white glass” finish which Acer was particularly proud of back at the Aspire S7′s launch at Computex 2012 in June. The ultrabook promises between nine and twelve hours of runtime, with the keyboard being backlit and ports including HDMI, USB and a memory card reader.
Optional will be the touchscreen we played with back at the launch, as well as variously increased amounts of RAM and SSD storage. Core i7 processors will also be offered, with Acer’s new Twin Air cooling system used to keep things from getting too toasty on your lap.

Rival to the ultra-thin MacBook Air has a number of optional upgrades
By Michael Rougeau August 10th
It's only been two months since Acer revealed the Aspire S7 Ultrabook at Computex 2012, and the Taiwanese manufacturer has already revealed pricing and release info for the new device.
The Aspire S7's release date has been confirmed as the end of September, and the ultrabook will drop for $1,465 (£1,149.99).
That means the initial runs will be equipped with Windows 7, as Windows 8 will release on October 26, three to four weeks after the Aspire S7 launch.
The thin S7 should get a Windows 8 reboot after the OS hits the public market.
The specs
Acer's Aspire S7 Ultrabook by default sports an Intel Core i5 Ivy Bridge processor, 128GB of SSD storage, 4GB RAM, and HDMI, USB and memory card reader ports.
A 12-hour battery cycle and backlit keyboard also serve to sweeten the deal.
The Aspire A7 comes in 11.6- and 13.3-inch flavors, but the thin machine can be beefed up significantly with a number of upgrades, including more RAM and SSD space and the option for a Core i7 chip.
In addition, it turns out the Aspire S7's much-hyped touchscreen could be an optional add-on, though there's no word yet on how much extra it might cost.
But an Acer spokesperson has revealed to TechRadar that while details haven't yet been announced, it's believed the touchscreen will come standard, though hardware configurations could differ by region.
Aspire S7 stands out
Acer is going to some lengths to ensure that the Aspire S7 stands out.
Its attractive "white glass" coating helps differentiate it from the current reigning king of ultra-thins, Apple's MacBook Air.
TechRadar predicted that Acer would reveal the pricing and release date for the Acer Aspire S7 at Berlin's IFA 2012 consumer electronics mega-show at the end of August.
But the company may have dropped the news now to ensure it wouldn't be lost in the inevitable rush of news from the convention.
The fold-back touchscreen is an addition that will no doubt impress Apple fans, but without Windows 8 the Aspire S7's initial runs may lag as would-be buyers wait for Microsoft's OS upgrade.

Re: Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabooks
I'm trying to decide between the W700 and the S7s. I'm trying to replace both my current W500 and laptop with one device.I played with all 3 awhile back but I still can't decide. W700 is nice but the dock and keyboard is bulky. if you need to travel with them then you might as well get a S7 11.6 which is actually less bulk to carry. Another problem for me is that 1920x1080 on a 11.6" is a bit hard on these old eyes but the 11.6" S7 I played with was a engineering sample with a 1366x768 screen which I thought was perfect. Sure the S7 is a bit more but it's actually less thing to carry around.
Moving to the 13.3" help on the eyes but is much more expensive. I wish they have a i5 model with 256GB as I don't really think I would need an i7 but you are force to jump from ~$1400 to ~$1650 if you want the 256GB SSD.
Storage is a problem with all 3 since the W700 does not have an SD slot and while the S7 does, It's one where half the SD card sticks out while plugged in (you wouldn't want to carry the thing around with half a SD card sticking out the side) so you can't add more storage at a low cost.Laptop: Asus G51JXA1, Intel Core i7-720QM, 6GB RAM, 500GB 7200rpm HD, Panasonic UJ-130A BD-ROM, nVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M 1GB, 15.6" Full HD Widescreen.
Desktop: Intel Q9550, ASUS P5B Deluxe, 4GB DDR2 1066, 1.5TB 7200.10 (2 at RAID 0), EVGA GTX 260 FTW in a Antec P180B w/NeoHE 500W, Logitech G15, G7, Z680 speakers and a Dell 2709W.

Re: Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabooks
Very poor battery usage time, most of these Ultrabooks are being advertised without that particular information.

Acer Aspire 5750 | 8GB RAM |320GB Toshiba | i3-2310m 2.1GHz

Re: Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabooks
I don't know how they perform their "Standard Battery Test" but my personal experience with the S7 11.6" is much better. I looped a ~2 hours HD mkv file at about 20% brightness and 30% volume almost twice before the unit auto shutdown on me. I would say you can probably get about 4 hours of practical use before you run out of battery.
EDIT: Given that the unit I used only have a 1366x768 screen. Driving a 1920x1080 will probably takes up a bit more power but I would think you would still see at least 3+ hours.Last edited by Wiz33; 22nd October 2012 at 05:42 PM.
