Default Acer 4720G upgraded, but now I want more!

I recently posted about successfully upgrading my acer 4720G to a 9600M GT (512K DDR3) video card and T7700 cpu. This upgrade cost me only $150 all up and has improved performance a lot.

HL2 plays really well at 1280x800 on high, Crysis and Crysis 2 are just barely playable at 1024x600 and low res, but another 10 or 20% speed increase would make a big difference I think.

Being disabled and broke, is there any way I can squeeze little bit more performance out of this machine? (I can't use a desktop, as I mostly have to lay in bed). I am running winXP Pro SP3 (32bit), 2Gb RAM, and a WD 500GB 7200rpm drive.

Your advice would be much appreciated!

    Regards, Rob

Adding RAM and moving to a 64bit system to be able to use it should help a lot for cheap.

    Default Thanks for the advice...>

I have upgraded my Ram to 3Gb total today, and I think that it has helped already. Pagefile usage seems to have dropped quite a lot. Now I have to get my head around an OS change to 64 bit....I might have to think about that one a bit first, sounds serious.

Would upgrading my CPU from a T7700 to say a T9300 make much of a difference do you think?

    Regards, Rob

An increase of 0.1GHz clock speed and 2MB L2 Cache is not worth the price IMHO.

Some experienced temps drop but for me it increased a bit but nothing to worry about.

Get an SSD for it, or a hybrid SSD like seagate momentus XT
You'll know what the word "fast" really means

But an upgrade from 65nm to 45nm is.

Penryns are significantly faster than Meroms even at the same clocks!

It will be faster but not by very high percentage.
