Default Acer Apsire 6530G odd fault

    Hi all,

I wonder if you can help, I have a rather strange fault with my laptop. My laptop will only power up with the AC connector and will only switch on if I press the Acer arcade button. Once the machine turns on the battery light starts flicking when I log into Windows. It flicks and causes the screen to flick a lot and the battery power status shows charging and then empty. The machine will then switch off as I have no power, even when a battery is not connected. I can however switch the machine on and then run it in safe mode without a flicking blue battery light.

I thought that the battery may have died, so I ordered a new one, but to no avail. I then thought the DC input was dead, so again ordered a new, but still with the same fault.

Could it be the power board, or is it more likely to be the motherboard? I am looking forward to your response as I miss this laptop dearly. I am very good with computers and am a bit perplexed with this one.

    Thanks all

    Pete

Use a Linux distro of your choosing and boot from it to rule out Windows issue (at least with the flickering blue light)

What about the fact the machine will not power up from the power button, or from a brand new battery? Only works off acer arcade button

That's weird but it's possible that the button may be malfunctioning or more likely that it's disconnected.
Still the fact that the machine is working fine in safe mode hints at some kind of a Windows related issue.

You can remove the top panel and check if the power button is properly connected and if the ribbon is undamaged.

No luck I'm afraid. If I try to power the machine of the battery I get no lights nothing. If I try and power it off plug in power with or without battery in I get 4 blinking orange lights and no response. If however I press the Acer arcade button the machine powers up. The laptop works fine until I log into windows and then the blue battery light starts to flash. This causes the battery icon to show charging and then stop and this happens about twice per second.

I managed to reinstall windows as well, but as soon as it finished and logged in the same happened. It works in safe mode, so i put it down to a mother board error.

Oh forgot to say, I even took the CMOS battery out to see if it was a bios issue, but no still the same.

    Any ideas
