Default Acer Aspire 7750g Owner's Thread

We need to pool information for this laptop and here is the start.

Link for modded bios: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Un...755G-V1-17 It is the bios for the 5755g but can be used for this model as well.

Range of specs for this laptop appears to be i7-2670 with 6850m (awesome) to the i5-2450m with 7670m.

Depending on the specific end model number 7750g-xxxx, it can have two to four dimm slots. All the 7750gs do have two HDD slots but some other models have the 2nd HDD slot blocked by it's backcover with plastic fillers. You need to find a backplate cover with 2nd hdd (available from:Specialty devices, best prices - it's itec4less.com! when in stock). You can try cutting through the plastic with a small saw knife and sanding it down to save money.

Cheapest price so far for this model with the i5-2450m and 7670m found at tigerdirect for $499 after $50 rebate.

If you want to replace the 1600x900 screen with a 1920x1080 one- possible:
HSD173PUW1 17.3 inch Laptop LED Screen Panel Matte WUXGA (1920x1080) Full HD - Laptopdvdrw.com for $179 but I still need to verify compatibility.

If anyone gets lucky to find a disassembly instruction/video would be great.

Bottom appears to have a mini-pcie for a possible egpu set-up or msata SSD-need to verify this.

Battery life hovers at around 4-5 hours with power saving mode.

Overclock of the gpu is feasible with msi afterburner or TRIXX.

Laptop seems to be a good bargain that can perform until Haswell comes out.

    Added 5/13/12

There was another thread here with regards to the overclock of the gpu in the 7750g model- looking for it. Well it has the OC experience for the 6650m How To Overclock ATI 6650M? Here's another link about OCing the 7670m http://www.overclock.net/t/1220216/l...-having-issues

OK here my experiences during 1 month using.
I buy and replaced backcover for seconds hdd.
I installed another 1TB Samsung HDD (WIn XP sp3)+ original 640GB ( Win7 home). Worked very well.
In bios i can choose which hdd first boot.Win7 home+Win XP SP 3 ( drivers at acer.com).
I'm dissatisfied with loudness fan and temperatures. I3 temperatures are very hot. 60 idle, 80-100 load *Celsius :-)*
I'm planning take ntb to a part and repast+clean vga + cpu with new paste - hope for low noise and quiet fan.

Another thing i wanna do is running integrated graphics, because mostly time i use low graphics applications and don't need high power with HD6650M.

Have problems with integrated microphone at skype call. Video looks well, but microphone record is not clean and my voice is incomprehensible.

Also have problems with Catalyst control center and hot keys. Hot keys for Gamma, brightness, contrast did not working at desktop.

Thanks for beginning this thread, its a good idea to pool this info. I just ordered the i5 2450 version of this laptop and am due to receive it in a couple of days. In the meantime I've been doing much research.

It appears the 7670m gpu is essentially a underclocked 7690m. Seems like theres a good potential to over clock it, depending on how it handles the extra heat. I have read elsewhere that a 75mhz increase is negligible on the heat.

I look forward to contributing to and following this thread.

I was under the impression that this was the GDRR5 version if at DRR3- then it would be the XT model of the 7670m. It can handle games- I am impressed for this price.

Repasting the GPU and CPU should help you looks like a bad paste job from the factory. I have not tried the mic function on this yet but you may want to download an updated driver if that would solve the problem.

Haven't played with gamma on the catalyst- I have been using the function keys for brightness.

Niice! I just bought this laptop a couple months ago..here's what I've done so far:

    Specs can be found here:

    Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AS7750G-6662 Notebook Intel Core i5 2430M(2.40GHz) 17.3" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 640GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi AMD Radeon HD 6650M

Using a dremel, I cut the area around the second HDD slot..so now I'm running Primary: 64GB SSD (Using to boot Windows) and Secondary 1TB HDD for programs and such.

Upgraded to 12GB Ram, Modded BIOS, on LeshCat Graphics Drivers

    Trying to do:
Apply Artic Silver (Cannot figure out how to remove the plastic above the processor..)
    Overclock

I did some more digging, I thought the 7670m GPU only came in DDR3 flavor, apparently there is both DDR3 and DDR5 versions out, see here: GPU Battle: Radeon HD 7670M vs Radeon HD 7690M vs Radeon HD 7690M XT

The system I ordered was the AS7750G-6645, the $500 Tiger Direct Deal mentioned earlier (I think).

I will know more once I have my hardware on Wednesday. I guess I'm speaking out of turn when I don't actually have my hands on the computer yet. Sorry!

The link seems to be broken. Also, can you or anyone confirm that this unlocked bios works on all 7750G's? The one I will be working with is i5-2450m/Radeon 7670m based. (AS7750G-6645)

    Thanks FMruss!

This bios unlocked mine. It should work on all 7750gs.

link for the modded bios: http://www.bios-mods.com/BIOS/Insyde/P5W...miloml.exe inside of the link thread I had before- it is the 5755g.

Yes it works on all 7750Gs. We all have the same M-board.

Thanks fmruss and funnyguy, for the reply. I didn't expect them to all be the same motherboard, throws me off a bit and you never can be too cautious when flashing a new BIOS.

I may skip that until I have a need to do it. I haven't decided yet.

I would like to mention best buy has 4gb sticks of ddr3 for sale @$16.99 +free shipping. I went to the store front and paid the $1 in tax. Cheapest price I've seen at the moment.

Fmruss; what I meant to say about your links, is that when you paste them into your post, its being automatically shortened with periods and breaking the link. Its not a correct url , when click on it doesn't take it to the intended destination.

Funnyguy; I haven't done much reading on leshcat yet, but what's the advantage to his drivers versus the official ati ones? Both will allow overclocking I believe.
