Default Acer 4720G succesfully upgraded to 9600M GT DDR3...>

It was a painless upgrade, sincere thanks to .NetRolller 3D for the modified bios. I am using the 257.21 driver and the matching modified inf file. While I was at it, I changed the cpu from a T7300 to a T7700 (quite cheap to do). Not a big leap in CPU speed but better than nothing!

Gameplay is a huge improvement over the old 8400M G video card, it was definitely worth doing. GPU temp seem to be good too, about 50c on idle and about 75-80c flat out 3d. (Is that ok?)

This is a great forum, I would never have tried doing this without the help of the excellent info posted by so many. Thanks to all, especially .NetRolller 3D!

    Regards, Rob

Did you use the BIOS marked as Experimental in the MXM modding topic?

I used the bios marked as "Aspire 4720(Z)G (Phoenix): request download ticket | ifile.it 5920G BIOS made with the same changes as this one caused a bad flash. Use at your own risk!"

I can confirm this bios works fine with the 4720G. Before I flashed it, (and before I even installed the 9600, I made a crisis rescue usb stick, just in case. However, it booted up fine, I just had to change a few minor bios settings to suit this machine.

    Thanks again....

    I failed

I bought a VG.9PG0Y.007 card. Installed it in my Acer Aspire 7720G and you hear machine workding but NO SCREEN even no blacklight of the screen! Installed back the 8400m gs and working fine. Update the BIOS to BLACK Edition V4 system running fine... installed back the VG.9PG0Y.007 again no screen
Even if i hang a VGA monitor... bios defaults etc etc... wait do i wrong?
Is the VGA CARD that or do i have to install a VG.9PG06.009 card?
I want 9600m GT 1 GIG mem in my ACER 7720G...

    Please Help

@indexwheel: Thanks! I'll mark it as a supported BIOS then.

@Quiet_Wildcard: Presumably you have a dead card.

BTW, a 512MB DDR3 9600M GT is actually faster than a 1GB DDR2 one. The type of the RAM is much more important than the amount.

Amazingly, this laptop also works with an Asus 4870m, fx 2700m and 9800m GT with the graphics card sticking out of the chassis.

Well, it's basically a shrunk-down 5920G, so that is to be expected. (The 4720G and 5920G BIOSes are almost identical; quite likely even a cross-flash would work between them. They are that similar.)

The seller assumed me that the card is not dead!

    It only worked for

    Acer Aspire - 6935G
    Acer Aspire - 6530G
    Acer Aspire - 6930G
    Acer Aspire - 7530G
    Acer Aspire - 7730G
    Acer Aspire - 8920G
    Acer Aspire - 8930G

Also he send me the card inside a plastic bubble envelop (static sensitive) in a box. And that box in an overbox with static foam. It was very good packet ... except the card was in a normal bubble envelop. And with that static sensitive foam is it plausible it could be damage?
Is it plausible that the card is damaged by transport by the static envelop and foam? That there is static electricity occur during transport?

@Quiet_Wildcard: That could be it. Styrofoam pellets and bubblewrap are NOT static-safe packaging - the correct way to ship MXM cards is in antistatic (metallized) wrappers. In fact, styrofoam is extremely prone to producing static electricity.

Thank you for the quick reply.

I like to know and want to be sure of this card is dead now.
To claim it by the seller.

Now the 7720G does not work with the VG.9PG0Y.007 videocard.
Can I be sure this card is dead. Or simply doesn't work in a 7720G.
Is it possible this card still works in a 8930G laptop (where it came from)

    Definitely a buy a pig in a poke... because it isn't DDR3

I had to do more research in those forums.
