Default USB Port looks different than usual.

    Hi,

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 5750Z. One of the things I've noticed - One of the USB ports looks different than usual. It has 4 holes and doesn't have a flat egde like the others.

I thought it might have been a USB 3.0 Port, but it's not blue. I can't make much sense of the manual however their is a USB 3.0 Driver on the support website which I did install.

Here are some pics of the strange looking USB.

Does anyone know why this USB Port looks like this? The other 2 ports on the laptop look normal.

Just to add, the port still does function perfect, I'm just wondering why it looks different.

    Many thanks

    It's an eSata/USB combo port...

Edit: It looks like a standard USB port, that originally was going to be an eSata port but they decided at some point to just wire it as USB.
Here's the specifications. It lists only 3 USB ports. Kind of strange of Acer to do this, but whatever. On both of my notebooks I have an eSata/USB combo port, and it looks almost identical.

I'm certain it's not a broken port because my brother has the same laptop and his has the exact same looking port.

Makes sense, so it's just kind of a normal feature?

    Just to update.

I contacted Acer tech support about this, the woman I spoke to didn't really seem to know much of what I was on about though.

She said the port I'm referring to is a dual firewire/USB Port.

    Does this sound right? :S

It's not broken. Some 5750G don't have USB 3 and for some reason one or the other USB port on right side looks like this.
No idea why but no one complained about them not working and it can be seen in multiple units.

no, is broken. plastic portion of port is pushed back and at a slight upward angle. May work for a bit, but eventually will fail as the usb contacts have no support.

You may be right as to the angle of the plastic- it's hard to tell from those photos.
Those 4 "holes" are fine but plastic should be level- not upwards or downwards.
I'm not sure if it is or isn't from those photos.

    Thanks for the replys guys.

I know what you mean about the angle of the USB Port, it does seem higher than usual but I am assured their has never been any form of damage to the actual port.

    Maybe it's normal?

    Thanks
