Default Acer Aspire 5560G-sb468 won't reboot or shutdown with Win 7

So the first thing I did after I received this thing was to dump everything on it and install a retail copy of Windows 7 Ultimate on it. Bad idea apparently. With this version, after doing all possible updates on Windows Update and installing ePowerManager and all drivers from the Acer site, I can't get this thing to reboot properly. It gets a black screen, presumably the point where it should reset or shutdown..... but it just sits there and never does so. Same problem for Ubuntu as well if that's any help. I upgraded BIOS to be sure, however doesn't help.

    Any clues?

I am having the same issue. Let me know if you find a solution and I will do the same.

thats weird, i did the same. no issues. first thing i did was format the entire drive, i even deleted the reserved system space. put windows 7 ultimate 64bit on it and it booted up just fine.

did you do 32 or 64 bit? have you tried reformatting again? and i would check out the ram. take out the chip and reinsert it again.

also, you arent using an external monitor are you? i get those exact symptoms when i try to reboot or boot up from power down with the external monitor attached. im using an hdmi-to-dvi cable. when attached, the system will start and just sit black screened. i remove the cable, and the laptop screen still says black, no response with key press or mouse movement. i end up having to hold down the power button to hardboot.

very annoying.. i always have to remember to pull the hdmi cable out when rebooting or booting up from power down.
