    Default 5742 CPU upgrade

    Hi all,

    Great forum!

Was thinking of upgrading my Aspire 5742 from i3 380m to i7 460m was wondering if it's a straight forward swap...any known BIOS issues, worthwhile upgrade etc.?

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. Do you mean Core i5 460M or Core i7 640M?

It should work provided you upgrade your BIOS first (updated list of microcodes)
You may want to consider other units too- Core i5 560/580M should have almost the same performance but may be cheaper.

    Thanks for the reply

Am wondering now is there such an update, as I don't think Acer make an i7 640m powered aspire 5742?

Also...will the i7 chip provide any improvement in graphics performance over the i3?
