No Display / System will not POST Aspire 4520
No Display / System will not POST Aspire 4520
On startup just some lights in the beginning and nothing happening on the screen
Many have this problem on AspireOneAOA and the solution is as below.
I have same problem as acer aspirone solution below, but there are not any "fd" file on the 4520G bios so how do I do this on my 4520G?
AspireOneAOA110, AspireOneAOA150
Q: No Display / System will not POST Aspire One AOA.
A:
Download
AS1_BIOS_3309.zip
Create a recovery USB drive to update the Bios on the unit. The specific steps to perform this recovery with the USB drive are:
Download & Extract AS1_BIOS_3309.zip
Rename the Bios name from 3309.fd to zg5ia32.fd.
Copy zg5ia32.fd and Fla.exe to USB flash drive.
Start the restoration process:
A. Plug the AC Adapter into the unit.
B. Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port.
C. Press and Hold down the Fn and the Esc keys together.
D. Keep these keys held down and press power.
E. When the unit's power light comes on release the Fn and Esc keys.
F. After the keys have been released the power light will start to blink.
G. Let the unit run and after approximately 1-7 minutes, the unit should reboot.

Re: No Display / System will not POST Aspire 4520
get the latest bios from acer for your model, file will be in .fd format, then rename accordingly and put in appropriate folder

Re: No Display / System will not POST Aspire 4520
You have a Phoenix BIOS, the FD method is for Insyde BIOSes. For Phoenix, you must use WinCris and a USB floppy drive (apparently only floppies work, even though WinCris supports flash drives too).
However, I would first try booting with the MXM card removed (the 4520G is MXM, right?), to see if you can hear Windows booting in the background. If Windows does boot with the MXM removed, then you have a faulty MXM card, and no BIOS update will fix that.

Crisis recovery disk supports thumbdrives as well, you do not need to use a floppy drive (who uses floppy drives nowadays anyway
)

Re: No Display / System will not POST Aspire 4520
On older notebooks, BIOS can only recovered using a floppy disk (with USB floppy drive).
@peterjojo,
What happen or what did you do with your notebook before the problem occurred? BIOS recovery only required if the BIOS is corrupted by bad BIOS flash. Probably it is hardware problem.Dell Studio 1557 | Intel Core i7-720QM - CPU Microcode Update Rev 4 | 4GB | dGPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 + eGPU: PowerColor HD 5870

Re: No Display / System will not POST Aspire 4520
This notebook is 3 years and have no floppy drive on it.
What happened was I went away from the notebook 10 minutes and come back to a black screen and had to turn it off by hold down the power button.
started normally but after a minute the screen got some funny yellow, red, green colors. after that when i try to start it it only has light in the power button, HDD button and bluetooth button, the screen change from dark black to light black only.
I see on internet many Acer has problem with No Display / System will not POST

Re: No Display / System will not POST Aspire 4520
That is why I mentioned USB floppy drive.
Definitely hardware problem, most probably the motherboard. The No Display / System will not POST problem can be caused by many factor. In your case, it's hardware problem since you didn't flash the BIOS before the problem occurred.Dell Studio 1557 | Intel Core i7-720QM - CPU Microcode Update Rev 4 | 4GB | dGPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 + eGPU: PowerColor HD 5870
