Re: Acer MXM BIOS Mods and discussion (was: x920G vs. 9600M GT)
Hi thanks for all your work on this. I have a 7720 with x3100 and the latest build of yours caused some bsod's with win7 and vista. Related to the video drivers as best I could tell. So I am looking forward to your updated x3100 version. The acer version has always had problems anyway. And thanks for fixing the dsdt portion of yours too.
Thanks,
Don

Re: Acer MXM BIOS Mods and discussion (was: x920G vs. 9600M GT)
hello, as I have already installed the 9600M GT in the 5920g, it works extremely well, 40 ° C without load, 65 º C under load, I tried connecting the cable dvi to the tv, i works well, Idont have hdmi cable, but I'm 100x100 sure works well.
I'm happy with this bios and the GRAPHICS CARD.
5 stars for developers.
I have the latest drivers from nvidia, you suggest I use another version in particular?

@don h: Do not ever mention the H word on this forum. Discussion of running Mac OS X on non-Apple hardware is strictly prohibited.

Re: Acer MXM BIOS Mods and discussion (was: x920G vs. 9600M GT)
Hey .NetRoller3D, i'm kinda new in this forum even though i've been checking it for some months now.. Whenever i have issues with my laptops i seem to find the solution for it right here ^^ So im gonna give it a go and see what can be done in my newest (frustrating) case.
I'm a proud owner of an Acer 8930G laptop, love the pc but after my graphics card 'blew up' (9600GT DDR3) i've been having lots of headaches trying to figure out what i could do to fix it and reached the conclusion that the GPU had no solution. I started looking at MXMII GPU's that could fit this laptop and found some information (misleading?) that the Quadro FX770M would work 100% garanteed (its basically the "same" card as the 9600GT so i didnt really think otherwise).
Anyway, most of the time i spend on the pc is dedicated to image/video rendering and not games so... it seemed like the best investment i could make. I then bought it online, got it this week and... well... The pc boots, LCD turns on but no image shows in it.
I then tried to use an external monitor and conected the VGA cable, image appears and everything seems to work as intended. (just as you described in your initial post)
I have no idea what i can do to fix this... BIOS change? BIOS mod? Forget this card, sell it and get another 9600GT? (argh) I dont really know much when it comes down to dealing with that sort of stuff but i have someone at home that does, just have to lead him to the right place cuz he has doubts aswell.
Little help would be much apreciated
cheers everyone

Re: Acer MXM BIOS Mods and discussion (was: x920G vs. 9600M GT)
What VBIOS version do you have?
(The one ending in 7A.01.06 tends to be the best, compatibility-wise.)
Also, check for a disconnected LCD cable.Acer Aspire 5720ZG "Maximum Overdrive": CPU: T9300 | VGA: GT 230M, 1GB DDR3 (MXM-II, taken from a Toshiba A500) | RAM: 4GB | Display: 1920x1200 "LP154WU1-TLC1" | BIOS: V1.45 "Black edition V4.0"

Re: Acer MXM BIOS Mods and discussion (was: x920G vs. 9600M GT)
Thanks for the reply

Downloaded GPU-Z, this is what i got.
I'm gonna open the pc up to see if i can find any issue on the LCD in the meanwhile.
*EDIT* By the way, i used to be able to see both CPU and GPU temps on HWMonitor back when i had the 9600GT, now the gpu doesnt appear on it and cpu temps are frozen/random. >_>
*EDIT2* It seems like the pc is strugling with several drivers, specially the most recent ones, as soon as i enter windows 7 it takes a couple of mins until the image on the external screen disappears, LCD on the laptop blinks once or twice and then the pc restarts. Found an old driver that is somewhat stable 178.26 (doesnt crash the machine.. which is a start...)Last edited by Mayhart; 12th April 2012 at 01:10 AM.

Re: Acer MXM BIOS Mods and discussion (was: x920G vs. 9600M GT)
Flash to 62.94.7A.01.06.
Note that your card is currently overclocked - the correct clocks would be 500/800/1250. This may easily be the reason why you are crashing.Acer Aspire 5720ZG "Maximum Overdrive": CPU: T9300 | VGA: GT 230M, 1GB DDR3 (MXM-II, taken from a Toshiba A500) | RAM: 4GB | Display: 1920x1200 "LP154WU1-TLC1" | BIOS: V1.45 "Black edition V4.0"

Re: Acer MXM BIOS Mods and discussion (was: x920G vs. 9600M GT)
@.NetRolller 3D
Hi, I have tried all the vga bios found on techpowerup.com (9600M GT DDR2, 9650M GT DDR2) for my new 9600M GS DDR2 installed in 8920G with your modded sbios but with no luck.
Do you have any advice regarding my issue? Any other vga bios maybe?
Thanks

Re: Acer MXM BIOS Mods and discussion (was: x920G vs. 9600M GT)
Hi all,
Here's the last news for my 9600m gt installation attempt (target codename: 9920g! héhé)... After hours of manipulations, I have now access to the ubuntu system while making "the nomodeset" trick like this link describes for example : nvidia - Strange resolution on Ubuntu 11.10 - Ask Ubuntu - Stack Exchange.
Still, the display is not correct (VESA driver is used, and is out of date...), and I still also have the non EDID detection by the driver (I obtained the same kind of xorg.log that I have posted earlier)... I would love to solve this issue once and for all! héhé.
@Netrolller : have you got time to look for a new Vbios change? I think we are close to the solution, that should lie in the original 8600m gt Vbios confguration : what do you think about it? Could you please also explain me more in details why the nouveau driver seems to ignore the EDID information while the 9600m gt (when everything is perfect when I turn back to the 8600m gt...). I really can't get it! Thanks a lot.
EDIT : I also tried the V3_Beta SBios you've made for the jimmyjimmy "case", without any success, unfortunately...
Thanks for any help, and good luck to your own work!Last edited by Hycks; 12th April 2012 at 01:31 PM.
