    In the run up to Computex Taipei, Acer head office just officially announced the Aspire 9510, with 17" LCD (dual lamps), GeForce Go 7900 512MB, Centrino Duo, dual 120GB HDDs, and up to 4GB RAM:

    TAIPEI, TAIWAN (2 June, 2006) -- Acer is set to unveil a high-definition (HD) notebook showcase at the Computex Taipei, with the 15.4" Aspire 9110 and Aspire 5670, and 17" Aspire 9510, targeting mainstream and full-feature multimedia segments, and the 20.1" Aspire 9800 large screen entertainment notebook. The HD solution includes the HD-DVD-ROM drive that presents much improved screen response time, high brightness and superior audio experiences. Acer's HD notebooks are also equipped with HDMI and HDCP support for projecting HD movies and high-impact gaming to high-end LCD TVs.

    HD-DVD technology
    HD-DVD technology supports 13 types of optical media formats as well as the DVD Super-Multi drive for advanced capability -- with up to six times the image quality of standard DVD movies -- and complete backward compatibility. The new technology offers high-fidelity visual and audio, and will be a key content driver utilized by leading media companies and IT players, certifying the demand for high processing performance, software support, audio decoding technology and content security enforcement. Specifically, HD-DVD technology offers enhanced interactivity by providing picture-in-picture overlay with moving video background; at the same time streaming Internet video and updates can be synchronized with pre-recorded HD DVD content.     Ummm... "cough" MeroM "cough"....
    Whatever happened to that? How come still the Yonah?

    This Aspire 9510 will cause havoc in Dell (1710). I trust Acer will stick to their usual low prices on this one as well...

    wow. thats gd news and bad news to me. gd news is Acer finally have a high end gfx card in their notebook. bad news, I've just got a 5573 with x1600, so no 7900 for me......... haha

    All of these are Core Duo. So far the only new AMD notebooks that Acer has announced for Computex are the Ferrari 1000 and Ferrari 5000 described in another thread.

    The Ferrari notebooks announced separately are rumored to ship from June 27th. Not sure on these Aspires, but I'm guessing within the next 6 weeks would seem reasonable for first shipments.

    If I were you, I'd write down what needs and requirements you have of a notebook, then compare the Ferrari and others, see which meets those needs best.

    That'll make your decision for you.
