Thanks for the heads up! I'll be sure to use the conventional drivers then.

    Thanks.
When I turn on my laptop, the Windows clock always resets to the last setting that I made. I also tried updating the BIOS clock but the same issue happens. A depleted CMOS battery is the only thing that I can think of which causes this.

Replaced the CMOS battery and my clocks are behaving normally now.
Thanks to Bronsky for the Service Guide and maikvalberg for confirming the battery model.

i have posted a question over here:
[WIN7] W7 thinks i have Dual Monitors, but only have one....
(hope i havent broken some rule about including a link, if so... sorry)

but as my laptop is 3820TG, i feel i should also ask the question over here.

does anyone know how to change the settings for primary display? my machine has the main set to #2, but for the life of me, i cant seem to change it to screen one.

or is this even a problem that i should be concerned about?

    thank you
    Pine

Hi everybody, sorry to bring back up again an old topic.

I have the u2711 monitor and I am having trouble forcing the native resolution 2560x1440 over HDMI.

I tried following penan's instructions, but unfortunately the referenced dell_new_2.edid file is no longer to be found online so i'm stuck.

I changed the prefix on the "dell_new_2.edid" from .edid to .dat

Then I opened the .dat file in "Monitor Asset Manager" that can be found here:
EnTech Taiwan | Utilities | Monitor Asset Manager

With the Monitor Asset manager I created an .INF file and used that file to upgrade the Dell U2711 drivers.

I restarted the computer and voila! I can now choose 2560 x 1440 on the Dell monitor and it works like a charm, so far I have no problems what so ever running the native resolution on my Dell screen with my 3820TG through HDMI
    penan:
I am very excited to read that you got this working.

I wonder perhaps if you could post the contents of the .INF file you generated?

I was able to use Switchable Graphics last time, but not anymore. I'm stuck on the Intel Graphics and can't seem to switch over to the ATI graphics and vice versa unless I change it in the BIOS. Anyone know a solution, aside from driver update? It was fine just a couple days ago..

i have had similar problems, seems that some how that the software is dis-abled, found that it was an easy fix (wasnt easy to find out how to do it first time)

    left click on "Start"
right click on "Computer", left click on "Properties"
    left click on "Device Manager"
    left click on "Display Adapters"
double click on "ATi Radeon HD (whatever you have)"

somewhere on that pop up window (4 Tabs), it will say that the device has stopped working and if you want to "enable" it.

last night i tried to BF3, and i couldnt, origin said that my hard/soft ware didnt support DX11 or what ever...
so i did the above steps, "enabled" it, went back and all worked...

hope that this makes sense, and works for you....

    Dell u2711 2560x1440 over HDMI

Ok. I actually figured this out myself spending countless hours messing around with monitor asset manager and phoenix edid designer.

I have produced three working drivers for 2560x1440 at 35hz, 40hz and 43hz.

I prefer the 43hz driver. I believe that this is the most hz we can get out of the 3820TG for 2560x1440 over hdmi, as the pixel clock is maxed at 165Mhz in this configuration.

I am using a HDMI->DVI converter - so the .INF files might not work with a straight HDMI connection to the display.

    1. Right click desktop, select 'Screen resolution'
    2. Click 'Advanced settings'
    3. Click the 'Monitor' tab
    4. Click the 'Properties' button
    5. Click the 'Driver' tab
    6. Click the 'Update Driver' button
    7. Select 'Browse my computer for driver software'
    8. Select 'Let me pick from list of device drivers on my computer'
    9. Click 'Have Disk' button
    10. Browse to directory and select a u2711 driver override .INF file
    11. Pick the desired driver to install (35hz/40hz/43hz)
    12. Complete installation and restart computer
    13. Right click desktop, select 'Screen resolution' and pick 2560x1440
