Re: Acer Aspire 5920G + hd 4650 mobility. Help!
My 5920 came back from service... they replaced mobo and graphic card (they said 8600 died too.). I had to pay a half of laptop value. now i dont know what to think. i found cigarette ashes inside my laptop... and additonal 1Gb of ram. They also forgot to thermal paste, and there was some screws missing.
Some of Polish laptop service companies are strange ones...
I think i will be avoiding this one...

Will it work in my machine?

Re: Acer Aspire 5920G + hd 4650 mobility. Help!
About the same happened with my Aspire8735G. After my attempt on changing the CPU (and a small accident with the graphic card) the laptop wouldn't turn on anymore (black screen). It wasn't booting either. After several weeks spent in service I got an answer: the graphic card was completely dead. Further more, some voltages for the graphic card were missing (mobo fault).
Solution: voltage regulators on the mobo replaced and new graphic card (HD4670).
It's weird to read of another case of dead mobo (I mean the power supply for the GPU) caused by a faulty graphic card. I never thought it was possible.
Same thing here, in Romania: screws missing, bad case assembly, heat sink mounted worng, etc. They say they are "Acer authorized repair shop". Really?!?! Before paying for the repair I made them put things together the right way. They did, except for the heat sink => 110 degrees Celsius on the GPU in stress. I hate leaving things in service.
Anyway... On my second attempt on changing the CPU (No, I did not give up!
) it works just as it should have worked 2 months ago. I mounted the heat sink the right way together with ZM-STG1 thermal paste. It works great. Temps around 40 degrees on both CPU and GPU at idle.
Reading your story and adding it to my recent experience with "repair specialists" looks like some of the end users have more knowledge and do things way better than "authorized personnel".
Good luck with your mod. Hope you make it work just the way you want!
