Default Acer Aspire 8935G: Is It SATA or SATA II?

I’m thinking about getting a Vertex 2 SATA II SSD for my 8935G but don’t know if the laptop is SATA or SATA II. How can I tell how it’s configured? Would it show in the bios? The service manual mentions “HDD(SATA)” and “HDD Interface-SATA”. But the manual also says Max RAM is 4GB which is not correct. I’ve got 8GB RAM in there working just fine.

I read this on a site: “You need to have SATA II, a SATA II controller, drive, and even cable to get it (the HDD) to work at SATA II speeds. If any of the three doesn’t conform, the link would revert to SATA for compatibility.”

    Of course I wouldn’t need a cable…………..

The SSD I want to get Reads 285 MB/s and Writes 275 MB/s. But if the laptop is only SATA then the Reads/Writes will be limited to 150 MB/s and the money for the extra performance will be wasted.

If it's the same as my 7738G its SATA-II (its the same generation of system).

I'd be surprised if it was not.

Read this thread before you commit yourself to OCZ SSD.

Thanks Meaker, I'm going to assume it's SATA-II......it was built in 2009. If it turns out not to be, I'll swap the new SSD with an older Vertex already in my PC. That SSD is only 60GB though with slower reads/writes........

@ ellalan - That's a helluvan eye opener. All I need is for the SSD to meet it's read/write specs, or come very close to them. I've got an older Vertex in my SATA-II PC that according to ATTO and some other benchmarks the SSD meets it's specs.

EDIT: After intensive reading on the subject (thanks ellalan) all over the web, I am offcially boycotting OCZ. Period. Forever. Never again. Knowingly selling a severely inferior product in an established and superior product's packaging at the same price to unsuspecting consumers? FAIL!
