Acer 3820TG i3 vs i5 versions - Battery Life
Hey all,
I had a 3820TG i5-450M version which crapped out on me. I then grabbed the Canadian i3-370M.
I've been wondering about the battery life, which seems much lower on the i3-370M version. According to Everest, the power drain on lowest brightness, wifi off, idle, power saver settings is about 14W, whereas previously it was only about 8W. All other components are the same.
This means that the i3 version can idle at desktop for only about 5 hours on battery. Does anyone else have this issue?

Re: Acer 3820TG i3 vs i5 versions - Battery Life
It's quite possible. Both CPUs make about 35W at full power. If the I5 needs to run at 2% on an idle machine, and the i3 needs to run at 4%, then it'll be pulling more power to do the same work.
It's like that episode of top gear where they drove a prius around the test track at full throttle, followed by a BMW M5. The Prius got 17 MPG, the BMW something like 21.

Two off topic posts deleted. It's not a Top Gear message board so stick to notebooks. Thanks
