Are you sure that your heat seak is sitting very well on your gpu? Cause after replacing my faulty 8400m gs for an 9600m gt, one of the component of the card interferred with my heat sink and had to cut a small part of the heat sink to get it to sit perfectly on the gpu.

I took the heatsink off and show that one side did not sit well. How did you cut the heatsink?

Exactly the same part was interferring with mine... so i cutted a square part to fit ok with a metal saw! Now my heat sing is fully seated on the gpu and stay cool!

I tried to file it around the elevated screw hole and it kinda worked, temp has dropped from 85c to 79c when playing Mass Effect 3.
What temperature does yours rise?

no problem : it works perfectly

had the same problem and have to add the card vendors id in the inf file manually to have it detected correctly...

just received my replacement t9300 cpu and this one worked out of the box!

Got refund for the DOA cpu i've got before this one.

Now i need a battery and maybe some day a 1900x1200 lcd panel...

"Z" means a dumbed-down CPU and wireless card. (Non-Z machines have Core 2 CPUs and dual-band Intel Centrino wireless adapters; Z ones usually have Pentium or Celeron CPUs and single-band Broadcom/Atheros WiFi.)

"G" identifies machines with discrete graphics. However, the absence of a "G" in the model number doesn't necessarily mean integrated graphics - Acer didn't use "G" consistently in all markets.

The best simple upgrade is the 9600M GT. The GT 240M from Asus has not been tested in this machine, but it will likely work too. GT 230M and GT 330M are possible, but they require good soldering skills.

The best GPU you can get for the 7720G is the GT 330M. The best plug-and-play one is the GT 240M. (The 330M is 25MHz faster than the 240M, otherwise they are the same.)

A modded inf is needed because the default inf files only contain records for "supported" configurations, i.e. for cards that originally came with your machine model. When you plug in an Asus-made GT 240M into an Acer, it will show up as an Acer GT 240M, which doesn't really exist, and so will not be present in the inf.

Probably i forgot this because i had a car exident 3 days later...

But now the question is this easily to run under windows vista? Modding some inf files? Or can I expect lot of trouble?

[troll]With Windows Vista, you can expect a lot of trouble, no matter what video card you have, or what machine you install it into. Seriously, upgrade.[/troll]

Anyway, usually all you need to do is either use a modded inf, or install drivers from Asus's site (the 240M comes from the Asus M60j, so choose that model number on the Asus support site). This should work with Windows XP and 7 - I honestly don't know or care whether it works with "Windows Millennium 2" or not.
