re: cer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG Owners Lounge
Has anyone found out if they can replace that cd area for another Hard drive or somehow making it cooler without having to buy a cooler?

The box is very good too. No harm at just staring.

re: cer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG Owners Lounge
I just opened my 4820tg, I hesitated cos I wanted to make sure I won't return it . Build quality is actually nice, the top cover is beautiful (personal taste), but I'm kinda worried about the screen hinges. Keyboard does have a little flex but it doesn't bother me at all, I don't notice anything while typing, only when I actually tried to press around the keyboard as hard as I can. Touchpad is the best out of the laptops I've tried lately (toshiba r705, sony CW). The display could be better, the CW display put this one to shame, much nicer colors.
Is something wrong with my screen because it's grainy, I can kinda "see" the pixels, it's kinda annoying. 1366x768 prob isnt the best for 14" but I didn't notice anything like this on the CW.Last edited by Tweno; 17th July 2010 at 10:33 PM.

Back to my audio problem. Anyone know how to get the Dolby Surround Sound back for the Sound option.

re: cer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG Owners Lounge
After lurking on these forums for a while I've worked out that the 3820TG isn't coming to Australia any time soon.
So I went out this morning and bought a 4820TG-434G50Mn with i5-430 and but no Bluetooth. Cheap (for Australia) at A$1100 after Acer cashback.
This is a big step up from my Eee S101 and I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces. Happy to confirm if the i5-430 doesn't suffer from the throttling like the i3 once I get everything installed.
One initial interesting thing is the WEI numbers. I got 5.5 for the HDD (WDC 500GB) which seems low. Is this within the normal range for a 5400RPM drive (coming from SSD on the Eee).
Cheers
Josh

using an HDD caddy such as this
9.5mm Serial ATA Optical Bay Hard Drive Adapter/caddy - eBay (item 250636145840 end time Jul-18-10 20:21:26 PDT)
note: not sure if we will need 9.5mm or 12.7mm caddys

re: cer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG Owners Lounge
I also noticed the grainy display on the Acer Aspire 5740G and Sony NW series laptop. Maybe, the Sony CW series has a different manufactured display?
Manufacturers don't seem to care about LCD quality displays anymore. My 2004 Dell Inspiron 700m has a display that is 5x better, it doesn't have the grainy effect, it has the best viewing angles, and blacks are actually black.
