It gives you full functionality of the function keys and the pretty little animations that pop up when you press them

Not too sure what the other software on the acer download site does. ePower Managment I'm guessing, is just some acer software that lets you change power profiles, but I don't mind using the built in Windows power settings.

Anyone else also having a bit of an issue with ATI HDMI audio? When I boot up the laptop while it is still connected to TV, I have to switch between GPU's for it to work. Otherwise video HDMI output works fine but it doesn't find HDMI audio.

I have to say it is fun playing DIRT 2 and SC2 on the 1080p TV

These temps were according to HWmonitor.
I did not notice any throttling but that does not mean there was no throttling. The exhaust from the vent was scorching hot but the rest of the laptop was only slightly warm. In general, I think the i3 version can game pretty decently.
From my understanding, those temps (on an i3, right?) are quite likely to have ended up causing your CPU to throttle. The throttling appears to trigger at 85c off of the main cpu temp sensor (which usually is a rough average of the two cores). You might not be noticing FPS drops during gaming depending on what you're otherwise used to, when they occur during the game and how distracted you are by the gameplay. But I expect that if you did log with everest during gameplay and saw temps like those you'd also be seeing the cpu throttle down.

I just noticed that the warranties offered by Micro Center are different for the i3 model vs. the i5 model.

The i3 model has a "1 Year Limited Warranty" while the i5 model has a "1 year International Traveler's Warranty".

Does that mean Micro Center is just importing the i5 model from somewhere out of North America and reselling it? How do these warranties differ anyway? Does purchasing from Micro Center make one into a "bona fide traveler"?

If they are just importing the i5 model and reselling it, I wish they could do the same for the 3820TG (i5 model preferrably ) so we can be guaranteed a warranty. That would probably be a good seller.

No ... it's just bad copywriting. Each acer sold has both a 1 year warranty and a 1 year traveler's warranty.

Walmart has zero restocking fees on computers. I've returned a few laptops without hassle.
