Re: Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG Owners Lounge
Lemme check...ok, no brain tumor!
Any recommendation for how to clean or check the speakers?
I'm not sure what you mean by "driver core".Acer 4820TG - i5-480m, HD 5650 - $675 - two and half years old, starting to feel old, maybe just need an SSD
Possible upgrades - LG 900p screen, Momentus XT
Next laptop (2013?): 14" 900p screen, BR-RW, ATI 8xxx series dGPU w/ 2GB GDDR6 ram, 6-core AMD or Haswell, 8GB DDR4 ram, 1 TB SSD, 6 MP 1080p webcam, Lightpeak + USB 3.0, 16 hrs battery, <4 lbs

Re: Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG Owners Lounge
Glad to hear it about the tumor.
Speakers work by coiling a copper thread around a magnet and feed power to drive the speaker cone. The Acer speakers are so small and fragile that my guess is that the wire loosens up over time, causing more imput to get the same output. The dust issue is a bit more complicated. Since the magnet attracts dust with small metalic particles, it is hard to keep clean over time. The other problem is that access is hard to get without taking the notebook apart. You can't reach the speakers by taking the keyboard alone off. You have to split the bottom casing, take the speakers out and use a small vacuum attachment to clean out the dust. It's really not worth the effort. Just live with the fact that you need to turn the volume up a bit.

Re: Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG Owners Lounge
hello.
I have Acer 4820TG with core i3-330M and ati 5470. During unlocked BIOS flashing notebook has been totaly hang at final stage (message appears on the screen "updating EC firmware..). after power off it won't start. leds a second light up and faded out. Removing cmos battery does not help. As I understand it in this notebook BIOS settings are not reset by pulling out the battery. Tell me how to reset the BIOS settings hardware way?
P.S. And tell me it possible to this model of laptop to install the i7 620M?Last edited by DmitriyNchk; 29th April 2012 at 03:51 PM. Reason: specification

Re: Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG Owners Lounge
1- Use driver sweeper and clean out the amd drivers
2- Reboot
3- Install the 4820tg amd drivers (latest from acer which works with the 5650m)
Skip this if you're don't want latest amd drivers (v12.3)
4- Reboot in discrete mode by pressing F2 at bios posting and changing the settings, install the latest amd drivers from amd website
5- Reboot in switchable mode

Re: Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG Owners Lounge
Any laptop cooler suggestions for the 4820TG? What kinds of temperature decreases have people seen using a cooling pad?
