Its more difficult with the 3820 though, you dont have as much space with the frame surrounding the screen. Didnt use tape for mine, but sounds like a good idea. Also I really recommend using a !fresh! anti-static cleaning cloth, thats where i failed a bit

I'm having an issue with the sound. While increasing the volume from 0 to 1, I hear some not too loud noise. And while having the volume at 1 or louder I hear some other kind of noise, sounds like the wind or something. When I go down to 0 I don't hear anything, just silence.

Try reinstalling the audio drivers are get the latest release Realtek HD audio drives from their site. realtek.com i think it was. I'm using the latest drivers now and the speaker are slightly louder now Vs the stock acer driver.

I just installed it and got a significantly louder sound, especially with the headset. Thanks!

My problem remains though. I'm almost certain that this noise somehow comes from the hard drive because the noise is louder while the hard drive is working a lot; at boot-ups, starting applications etc. I also hear this sound while playing music, but only a little bit and while having low volume. I have only yet heard this with headset, and can't really tell if it's the same thing with the speakers.

I have now also successfully installed my new Momentus XT with W7 Enterprise. I tricked Acer eRecovery with an application called Virtual CD (demo available for free) and made a backup of the drivers and applications. Then I installed W7 and the drivers with a USB-stick. Thanks liath for Virutal CD!

No offense, but with the slightest bit of searching in this thread and the other 4820 threads, you would know that the 4820TG has been on sale for a few weeks now and the 3820TG is not likely to be here for quite some time.

I have done some research of my noise-issue. The answer I found to be very likely is this one:

The best (only!) solution is to buy a Sound Card
and install it in a free PCI slot.

The on-board sound chip on the m/board is probably a cheap chip, and they can suffer from electrical interference from other m/board components. It is the electrical "noise" generated by your PC's electronics that you are hearing.

A PC is a noisy environment, and the sound chip picks up the noise generated by all the components on the m/board.

Fitting a PCI card in the PCI slot that is *furthest* away from the power supply unit (which is a major source of noise and interference!) is the only practical way - internally - to isolate the Sound Card from all that PSU-derived electrical "noise".

What I know for sure is that the hard drive is causing this. I happened with my old hard drive, and is happening with my current.

What should I do guys

Maybe they have North American stock of T3810s that they haven't sold? I'm sure what they do is for a reason. If they release a superior product here immediately then they will totally destroy any opportunity to sell their current products.

To other owners: what wifi card came with your notebooks? I see some Broadcom and some Atheros. What are the differences? Which one is better?

They DID release a superior product here immediately. It's called the 3820T.

The marketing folks @ Acer obviously think there is not enough demand here in the NA for the 3820TG w/ 5650...

Yea, we all want it, but we're a notebook enthusiast forum... we probably represent barely 1% of 1% of Acer's total market share.

The answer is simple, if Acer had positive data showing they would make a profit selling the 3820TG here, they would.

I think the biggest reason we haven't seen the 3820TG w/ 5650 here is the fact that the general public still wants/needs an ODD. Hence why we see the 4820TG w/ 5650 here.
