Guys stop arguing. The fact is that for now Arrandale does not use that much less power than Penryn Core 2 Duo, but all versions are much faster than their Penryn counterpart. There was an Anandtach article that said that when Intel refreshes Arrandale in Q3 of this year, they will include more power optimization features than in this first round of Arrandale processors.

If we look at our desktop Clarkdale results we see that idle power for Intel's 32nm part isn't very good. It's actually worse than the 45nm Lynnfield platform from earlier this year. Intel confirmed that there is a lot of optimization that has to happen with Arrandale. It looks like there are some silicon level tweaks that are on the roadmap to be implemented but we won't see them until the middle of 2010. That means while the first Arrandale notebooks won't offer any more battery life than their predecessors, the second wave of Arrandale should fix that.
Hopefully this isn't the case with the ulv's.

If i buy the 1830T with a Core i5 520UM or Core i7 620UM/640UM and then in the Q3 2010 Intel launches "Tweaked" Core i5 540UM & Core i7 660UM and these new chips provide more battery life then i wil be gutted.

How much tweaking will they do ? What will it result in ?

Considering the Current Crop of i7 & i5 are more or less consuming the same battery life as the Penryn Core 2 Duos then... Maybe the "Tweaked" ULV Processors will give 10-30 % more battery life.

    In that case......

    1. Can i upgrade the Core i5 520 to a Core i5 540....????

    2. How much better will be a "Tweaked Core i5 540 than a Current Core i5 520...????

@zooster, if they were at similar or same performances then there would not be a comparison at all, there would not be a need for a new generation of computers or processors at all...And my comparisons were there battery lives in the same tasks.
Yes why not. Same performances at less power consumption... isn't it an evolution and improvement of electronics??
Of course we are debating on better performances with less power consumption.
To evaluate this we need to compare 2 different cpu old and new one at the same perfomance just to see which one is more efficient, which is the one with less consumption. Only after that we can evaluate the raw performance.

    hahahahaha.... lol....

yeah thunder... this drives me nuts man...!! I was ready to buy the 1810T when i heard of this.... So i have to wait for this coz it will be pretty idiotic to buy the 1810T when i know that the 1830T is just a few weeks away...

You know people like us who know too much by the way of reading forums like this, PC websites & magazines are always disturbed in the head coz we know what is coming in the future and then we wait for it...!!!

A normal person doesn't know and has no clue what the current technology is and what technology is coming how soon to replace it... He/She just walks into a store.. looks at a few models and mostly buys the one which he/she likes the most based on looks, price or depending on how the salesman pitched for a particular product.

    IGNORANCE IS BLISS...!!!

But Technologically Updated Fools like us follow the developments to the T and mostly we end never buying anything coz we keep waiting for that "Super Elusive Perfect Product"...!! In this case a laptop...!!!

Infact i don't buy anything without first reading countless reviews about it on the internet and magazines....Sometimes i feel its a waste of time.... But i guess in the end we never get burnt coz we know what we are "Buying".....

    Power to us...!!!

I see, well then my comparison is just for those who consider buying the mots powerful new CULV as opposed to one of the previous powerful ULVs. You're right, won't know about clock for clock battery life until later

With the Acer 1410/1810, there had also been the Gateway rebranded EC14/EC18 (known as Packard Bell Dot MU in Europe).

I personally prefer the styling of the Gateway models over the Acer. With the new Acer 1830Ts coming, I wonder if Gateway will release their own rebrand as well?

I am now ready. Just installed French Win 7 Professional I got from MSDNAA on my SSD, which means I can now install the Acer supplied Win 7 on the hdd when I sell my 3810t, and move the ssd into the 1830. Now all we need is Monday to arrive...

Does anyone know if this will be included in the March 22nd release? The Italian website only mentioned the 13.3"+ models.
