well one thing's for sure and that is it's definitely not going to be a Intel Pentium II.

Well, I am just so thrilled with my 1810T that there's very little I'd like to see improved. in fact, I dumped my EEE PC netbook and my 17" behemoth after realizing my Acer did a decent enough job replacing both.

But if at all possible, I'd like to see Acer stick to the $450, $550, and $600 price points (maybe a Core i3, i5 and i7?) like they did with the dual-core 1410/1810 series. Anything past $600, and there are just more compelling offerings from other manufacturers and with larger screen sizes. And hopefully Acer will keep something like an SU2300 1410 around at the $400 mark just to keep Dell, Toshiba etc on their toes.

So I'll definitely consider upgrading, finances permitting, If I can keep all of the good attributes of my 1810T and get slightly better performance and graphics all around (at least so I can decently play, say, CounterStrike:Source, Portal and WoW) while offering comparable battery life and a better keyboard. Then I'll be first in line with a pre-order! Otherwise, I'll just keep on truckin' with my current machine.

    Update:

Here's a vague article from the Digitimes saying Acer is "optimistic" and has placed "a large volume of orders" for Core i mobile processors. I suppose this really bodes welll for the chances of seeing a Core i-based 11.6" machine soon!

I agree with you about the $400-$600 price range. Using up to date processors shouldn't drive the price up.

Also, there is going to be a Aspire One 752 that is based on the current 1410 offerings. Acer is moving it to their "netbook" segment so they should be priced about the same as the 1410,

I have a feeling this will cost at least $599.99. Or maybe not? Will it cost more than the upcoming 1420/1820 tablets?

Link. Core i7's in big notebooks consume more power than the Core i5's, so will it be the same with the ulv models?

And didn't this happen before with Intel launching new processors and not having enough to go around. Why can't Intel ever be ready?

I dunno how much the current GS45 chipset and X4500 integrated graphics adds onto the 10watts of the current CULV chips.

    So, its not that bad.

exactly. the gs45 consumes about 12watts. so combine with culv would be minimum 22 watts.

so you are saving minimum 4 watts with more performance to boot.

I hope the price stays the same or I'm not even going to consider the 1830 and wait till the next generation. My 1810T has been a great work horse.

Intel probably went with a small batch of processors to gauge consumer interest. They didn't want to do a huge run and then find out no one wants them and they'll have large inventories on hand that they can't get rid of.

Remember all this TDP talk is the maximum amount the chipsets consume, not the minimum. We may know that the Core i CULV's will have lower ceilings based on stat sheets, but we have no clue what wattage they will idle at, how fast they will idle, and how clock speeds have an effect.

Ie, my laptop with su2300+gs45 idles at 5 watts, which includes the screen and wireless card and etc. Loading a webpage spikes to ~7 watts and quickly returns.

So talking about TDP's will not get you anywhere. For a decent comparison test, check out the Thinkpad x200s and the x201s. Those are direct comparisons.

Using laptopmag's battery tests (which are consistent and internet browsing repetitive tests), the x200s with C2D SL9400 consumed an average of 8 watts. The x201s with Core i7-LM averaged an consumption of 11 watts. So from this case, the Core i ULV consumes almost 40% more power.

The comparison is wrong.. you can compare SU9400 or SU9600 with i7-620UM or i7-640UM!
