Re: Acer Aspire TimelineX 1830T Thread
I understand that the 1830T does not come with USB 3.0 but is it USB 3.0 ready?
The way many USB 1.1 laptops had capability of adding USB 2.0?
If not, any chance of a mod?

Re: Acer Aspire TimelineX 1830T Thread
My 1st Laptop was an Inspiron 8200 Dell that only came with USB 1.1

6 to 9 months after purchase, USB2.0 became the standard in laptops and USB1.1 was equated to FAIL.
So I added a PCMCIA USB2.0 adapter card to the i8200 and was able to get 4 USB2.0 ports.
My concern here, is that the same thing if not worse will happen if I get this very tempting 1830T. I say worse since from the looks of it, theres no physical way of adding usb3.0 then it goes from bad to worse.
And, I'm aware of the argument that there will always be something better coming out in the next quarter or two.
However, some releases are paramount compared to others. USB3.0 will squash and make usb2.0 seem silly, just the way we can laugh at usb 1.1 speeds now.

Re: Acer Aspire TimelineX 1830T Thread
Intel is implementing USB 3.0 into laptops in 2011 with the Huron River platform on the Sandy Bridge architecture. This platform and processors should debut at CES 2011. So the next gen Acer 11.6 (not including a refresh Acer will likely do before the year is over) will have it.

Re: Acer Aspire TimelineX 1830T Thread
I C. I guess it won't me much of a loss though if it is ~$600.
That i8200 was ~$3,000 so it was a tough blow to know that I had missed the usb 2.0 by several months. And since I was able to add usb2.0 I kept it. Lol, I actually still have it and it boots up and runs faster than other peeps pcs that I know and for sure faster than my schools pcs. I don't use it any longer and don't try to sell for the $200 that it's probably worth now.
I guess I treat it like an emergency pc during those rare moments that my desktop goes down.
