Re: Acer Aspire 5740G Owners Lounge
4670 is faster than 5470.
But 5650 is a little better than 4670. They seem to have same performance.. Damn.. hard choice

Re: Acer Aspire 5740G Owners Lounge
Well HD 5650 has 400 pipelines compared to 320 in HD 4670 but lower clocks.
Since mine is overclocked to 670MHz and HD 4670 is clocked at 675MHz 5650 should be mathematically 20% faster but you gotta include the benefit of DX11 and 40nm manufacturing process (compared to 55nm in HD 4670)
Still I don't know why are we talking about HD 4670
We were comparing HD 5470 to HD 5650 a minute ago.
Look at these game tests at the bottom of the page: HD 5470 and HD 5650
In case of 5650 disregard the slowest benchmark for every test as it is Sony notebook with GPU clocked at 450MHz instead of 550MHz

Re: Acer Aspire 5740G Owners Lounge
I just got my 5740G-6395 yesterday and set it up today. Everything looks fine but to my dismay, I seem to have an RMA-worthy issue.
Anyone else's 5740G have a constant hissing noise coming from the left channel when they plug in headphones to their headphone jack? Yes I plugged it into the black jack closest to the front of the laptop, and I tried 3 different headphones, all with the same result. The speakers sound fine (no hiss that I can hear) so it looks like I have a faulty headphone jack
. Unless someone knows of some setting in the Realtek HD Control panel I need to change (note that everything is on stock settings as I just started using the laptop today).
EDIT: Actually, the hiss is coming out from both left and right sides. I just have to turn up the volume all the way to hear the hiss on the right side.

[QUOTE=downloads;6095798]Try the most recent drivers from Realtek website before you decide to RMA.
Yup, I just tried the latest Realtek HD Audio drivers (released 3/26/10 I believe) and same issue. I hear the hiss when I'm booting up the PC and in the BIOS too. It stops real quick when the laptop is booting up and its at that "Windows is Starting" splashscreen with the 4 windows dots. I guess its a hardware issue then and will need an RMA

Re: Acer Aspire 5740G Owners Lounge
That's a good suggestion. I really like this machine and I think I have resolved my issue (workaround). I've setup my Linksys G router with DDWRT and converted from Client Bridge to Repeater Bridge. It was very very unstable until I applied Static IP settings to the network card. I now I can connect wirelessly and have full bars and download faster than the other laptop with the Intel card. On that note I think the other laptop is finally dead. How sweet of it to wait until my new one is 100% configured.
I've just ran a few rounds of Prime95 on top of 3dMark06 and all seems stable.

Re: Acer Aspire 5740G Owners Lounge
Howdy, I have one of these laptops with it a ATI 5470 and a i3 CPU, and liking it lots so far
very fast.
I have a question, though. Is there any way I can tweak the graphics a bit? I know of 'mobility modder', but apparently it doesn't support the 5xxx series of cards. Not really sure what I can do! I don't mind too much if I can't tweak the graphics, but it'd be nice :P
thanks!
Edit: Oh yeah I should mention, things like Rivatuner/ATI Tool don't tend to work properly (can't overclock), and ATI Tray Tool gave me a nice BSOD :P
Also I'm using the stock graphics drivers.Last edited by Fairlyawesome; 2nd April 2010 at 11:17 PM.
