Yes it was connecting to my tv just fine up until recently. I really don't know what it is. I'll get it to work sometimes after restarting my computer and wiggling/putting pressure on the cable going into the laptop... but now it just isn't working at all =\

My question is, after I format and install everything as I want, can I still access the recovery partition, by the Fn+f10 keys combo (I think it's these...)?

I'm asking this because the notebook didn't come with any cd/dvd, and that partition is the only place where is the original software.

    Thanks
In windows7 you don't need to format the drive anymore in order to repartition. You can just repartition the drive from the disk management and don't need to reinstall anything ...check on google for more detailed instructions, but it's very simple and easy and you won't loose the recovery partition.

hi acer, thanks for the hint
i've downloaded the patch, but it doesn't seem to work.
i'll try contacting the author... even if, to be quite honest, i don't know which tasks i could assign to the two buttons :P

    I didn't knew that, thanks!

But I really need to format the notebook, I need windows and linux installed and I don't want all that time limited software that come with the default installation.

If I make a clean install, without touching the recovery partition, will I still be able to access it? I need to know so I can avoid any warranty problems that may appear (I hope not...)

    Thanks

You probably can but you should burn recovery DVDs anyway. The laptop doesn't come with recovery DVDs because you have to burn them yourself- 3 are needed for system backup and an additional one for drivers and apps.
Use Acer eRecovery Management for that.

Don't know if order has anything to do with it, but I plug in my laptop via hdmi, then turn my tv on.

Well, seems to me that I got a dead hard drive, but just asking to make sure...

I got the laptop a couple of weeks ago, with the 640GB HDD. It came with some linux so I repartitioned the hard drive and installed Windows 7. A couple of days ago after some windows update installed after shutting down the computer, booting was taking very long, and once in windows, most of the apps wouldn't open, they would give some page error or something on the lines. I decided that it must've been a one time something-goes-wrong thing and reformatted and reinstalled everything a couple of days ago, and 15 mins ago a Windows update restarted the computer again, and it wouldn't go into Windows, so I restarted, then chkdsk came up. It has since stayed at 3 % and going through segments 58453 (i know they dont mean anything but whatever) - saying "File record segment XXXXX is unreadable.

I will leave this at work to finish overnight sice it doesn't seem to be planning to pick up the pace. First, can anyone confirm this is a hardware problem for sure, and if so, does the warranty cover this or am I going to have to shell out some more hard earned cash for what will probably be a smaller hard drive?

    Thanks in advance!

Based on your story, looks like the HDD is faulty. You already format it but the problem still exist. Since it cannot works as it should be, for sure this is under warranty. You should be able to get the HDD replaced, free of charge.

You can try to troubleshoot this problem by formatting the HDD a couple of time just to make sure & reinstall windows again. Turned OFF system restore & do windows update again. See if the problem still exist.
