I'm afraid it's the attribute of the digital output connection not the codec- if the codec was 5.1 it would work.
I'm also pretty sure that I saw someone actually test this on another forum and it did work as stereo only but if you have a chance to test it please do- at least we could clear this one up.

(MY GPU GETS UP TO ABOUT 140º INGAME)
140 in Game? Are you measuring in Fahrenheit? I get up to 80C with my Overclock, but I also have a laptop cooler. I am curious what Overclocks people are getting on their GPUs. I was able to get 700/900 on mine. Was able to bump my 3dmark06 score from 7100 to 8500.

Sorry, but I won't be able to test this...maybe somebody else.
On acer's US site they also claim for the 5740 model to have True 5.1-channel surround-sound output ...

Yes but that does mean exactly what it says- there's gonna be 5.1 output but not 6 channel audio- just an up-scaled stereo.

You can't burn your GPU by overclocking without raising the voltage - unless it's too hot with default settings as well. That's like saying you'll destroy your cars engine by putting more fuel to the tank.

My 5650 oc's to 695/920 and gets about 8590 marks.

I think it should be able to pass audio directly to amplifier and therefore enabling 5.1 surround. I'll try it today/tomorrow.
