Re: Nvidia 9650m GT DDR3 Acer Bios
@ Arminator and Reylby,
It's seems that both of you are reporting that the 9650M GT works without any powermiser problems. I.E. meaning there is no single flicker at the clock change of the vid card. If i understood this right, it is good news and thankyou.
I thought the other main issue was getting the driver to install. I believed the message,
"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware",
was the problem encountered when trying to install driver for the 9650M GT.
@ Arminator,
It's brillliant if you have managed to get 258.xx to install without problems. (Plus no powermiser isses)
@ Reylby,
I looked at your pdf document to get the Nvid website drivers to install. I understand the principle of the process, and would attempt it myself. (It's most helpful).
I'm still confused though. E.g., if a fresh install of windows had been made, there would be no existing video card drivers installed. Most likely the 'Standerd VGA Adaptor' process, would be in place. Then if you tried to install the Nvidia drivers, would not you have to exit after the message:
"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware",
This is my dilema, because I have the a few versions of the Nvidia website drivers saved to hard disc. However I do not know how to edit the ListDevices file and the nvac information file, of these driver versions. As far as I have tried, I can not open the drivers to explore the files heirachy. If I attempt to open the Nvidia package, it goes into auto install mode.
I can access the files "ListDevices file and the nvac" if the driver is installed on the the laptop. Yet after a fresh install the drivers will not be there to edit.
Thanks,

Re: Nvidia 9650m GT DDR3 Acer Bios
@ Reylby,
I have re-read the guide, and I see I had forgotten the point that the driver files do become installed.
I think what confused me to forget that, was another issue.
I had thought, it would be better if the driver could be altered before it is installed. Then the moddified information files could saved and the modded Nvidia driver written to a disc.
The reason for that is in the re-sale of the laptop. Were you ever to sell the laptop you had the 9650 in, you would have to explain the issue with the driver. To the average person, this task would be impossible.
The option for the laptop re-sale would be you would need to remove the 9650M GT, and put in another GPU card like and 8600M GT. Then anyone can install those drivers.
A further alternative might be to download the driver from the Acer website since that driver has access to the nvac.inf, (for modification). (Thats access to the driver before installation.) You could then write your modified driver to a disc and sell it along with your laptop, if you ever sold it. Oddly thought the Acer website driver does not contain the ListDevices file. (It seems it does not need it.)
Anyway do you know how to advise if a user is using Vista 32 bit, please?

Re: Nvidia 9650m GT DDR3 Acer Bios
Oh yeah. I interpreted the,
"DEV_064C&SUBSYS etc",
reference to 64 as related to the OS. After looking again, I see it's directly code for the device.
1. Did you find the powermiser issues all gone, with your installation? (Everything working fine?) Taangberg reported so over on 'The Acer Guy' thread, Morris GPU Upgrade. Arminator said so too, but that was a different laptop, and the 258.xx driver installed straight away there. [I want to be sure before I buy].
2. What GPU temps are you getting, (without undervolting)?

P.S. I didn't quite understand your point about 'theory-it's good'. I wouldn't buy a 9650 unless I knew exactly what to do, now since the information is available. Neither do I doubt your reported method. Like I allready said - "(It's most helpful)".Last edited by u6b36ef; 7th December 2010 at 04:53 AM.

Re: Nvidia 9650m GT DDR3 Acer Bios
Anyone have any news on what temperatures to expect with a 9650M GT?
