Re: Acer 1410 1810t 1810tz add 3g hsdpa wwan mod
Hi,
Yesterday I finally received my mini pci e connector and sim card connector. I soldered everything on board, make a small jumper for pin 2 of mini pci-e to existed mini pci e connector (in order to get 3.3v there) and got my modem working. It has been detected by windows and I was able to install the drivers.
But it constantly says NO SIM CARD INSERTED
I found that the problem is because Acer did not solder on board few more components. I need your help please.
Anyone who has Acer 1410 opened and may just take a look on the PCB board at the bottom of your SIM Card slot you have component U10, what is written on it ? In my case there is no component U10 soldered on board. It is probably just a power supply for SIM Card. Also I am missing the following capacitors around U10: C230, 232, 233, 238, 239
I am sure this is my problem that these components are missing but I have no idea how and where to get their values
Please help if anyone know or faced that problem or may just give me the values of these components.
Thank you,
Vlad

Hi, assuming you are looking for someone with a 3G-equipped 1410, you are out of luck since none exist, As far as I know... :-/
As for 1410 mobo pics, I think Lepton has a 1410... in any case, good luck

Re: Acer 1410 1810t 1810tz add 3g hsdpa wwan mod
Thank you for the fast reply. I think I just figured out what is wrong. I did not test it yet but it looks like I do not have +3.3V power on the second pin of my SIM Card slot. This means that my SIM Card doe not work. So I have to put a jumper and probably it will work now
Will test it in the evening.

Re: Acer 1410 1810t 1810tz add 3g hsdpa wwan mod
No luck for me

It keeps saying NO SIM CARD INSERTED.
Modem is detected OK.
I checked and I have +3.3V on the V+ (pin2) of the Sim Card Slot.
That is very strange. I am using Sierra Wireless MC8775 HSDPA MiniPCI Card.
Maybe this one is not good for Acer.
Which HSDPA 3G modem should be used with in Acer ?

Re: Acer 1410 1810t 1810tz add 3g hsdpa wwan mod
Okey here we go !
I would like officially confirm that 3G mod works on Acer 1410 model. Finally, after two days of researching on the internet and looking for the schematics I fihured out what was my problem in this mod. All my troubles were in my SIM Card socket which I bought from eBay.
WARNING !!!! Whoever plans to do this mod DO NOT USE THIS TYPE OF SIM CARD SOCKET: THIS IS WRONG ONE
If you solder this socket to your Acer 1410 you will burn the SIM Card since all pins on this socket do not match with mother board pinout on the Acer.
You MUST get this socket: THIS IS CORRECT ONE
Also make sure that you give +3.3V power to pins 2 and 52 of the mini-pci-e connector which you soldered. And finally do not rush, solder everything slowly and make sure that all connections made well.
This mod works perfect for me, I have a good connection with my service provider (ROGERS) the only problem I have is that the signal level is LOW because I do not have an antenna yet and I am using just a piece of wire instead of it.
Good luck !

Nice work. Some photos would be awesome . Also do you have a link for what mini pci-e slot you have to solder in. Also where did you attach the sim card slot?
Nice job modding this.
