Hey guys, Im new to this forum, but joined on the basis that I will be getting a Acer Aspire 1810 dual core, relatively soon.

Im wondering if anyone, that has recently got one, can post some personal pictures of the unit and give a bit more feedback on it.

Great information resource on these models btw, Thanks all.

Run the application, and it should ask you for a CD/DVD to burn the image to. The catch with this method is that you have to have a cd/dvd burner attached. I don't know if it will allow you to burn into an ISO file.

I bought an external DVD Burner just to avoid this headache. I'm sure when the industry figure out a way to make a ton of money from USB and SD recordable only, we will al be able to burn images to flash based storage the way we do with CDs/DVDs.

That`s pretty much what i wanted to know.

I would like to make a clean format, but using the windows that are provided with the unit.
In case someone makes a format without having the backup already made , thats game over right?

    Next friday!!!
Guess I'll wait - again... 8 days and counting!
That day seems to be a legit arrival date, more retailers list it:

    That can´t be a coincidence

As long as you don't delete the hidden partition, you should be ok.

I will be doing the same thing. I have preordered the Professional version (I need to be able log in to a domain) to replace the HP.

With my previous experience with Win7 RC1, you can do a clean install on top of an old OS (XP, Vista, Win7). Your old OS, applications, files, etc. will be moved to a folder called windows.old. You can then safely delete this folder (if that is your intent).

Would appreciate hearing from those who are actually intent on creating a set of bootable restore disks, deleting the crapware and doing a clean re-install, as well as wiping the hidden partition in favor of possibly having the machine dual-boot (like Ubuntu or similar)

I am planning on installing a 7200rpm HD, so I want to make sure that I know how to do a clean re-install, as well as any pitfalls to avoid.

    Thanks in advance.

If you're completely wiping out the HD or installing a new one, you have to use the Acer Recovery Manager to create the recovery DVDs first. This should give you a backup of the Windows OS, Applications and Drivers.

The Asus Ul20 is definitely more aesthetically well-designed but Asus stripped that one pretty badly.
Hideous? Seriously? I think that might be a bit harsh. I know what you mean about the texture not matching but honestly, it's close enough that before you pointed it out, I hadn't really noticed.

I think overall this is a very attractive laptop for the price range. I do agree with you about the Asus looking a little nicer in black anyway. I'm not too fond of the way the brushed aluminum model looks for some reason.

It is the Case Logic LNEO-10 Ultraportable Neoprene Notebook Sleeve (Black) and fits great. I have used this sleeve for both my Asus 1000HE and my Acer 1410 (the 1410 is a snug fit but fits great since it is a bit thinner than the 1000HE). It also has plenty of room in the front for the power brick and my USB wireless card.
Thanks. Do you think this guy will fit?

My (harsh?) judgement may be biased in part by the fact that I am a Mac/Apple user otherwise and may just have grown an eye for aesthetic detail Seriously, though, its not so bad that I can't live with it -- just wish Acer gave some thought to it. However, forced to choose, I'd always pick function over form, which is why I'm not any regrets really with this baby, especially, as you mention, at this price range With Asus, the pictures give the impression that the battery doesn't show from above the keyboard - but hey, you can't always get everything you want

Here are some "personal" pictures attached (with a regular-sized coffee mug next to it), but I am not sure what other feedbacks you are looking for specifically. If you go back a couple of pages, myself and others have posted rather detailed impression of the dual-core and its all 99 % positive. If you have any specific questions, ask away.
