Re: Acer Aspire 1410 and 1810 Timeline (dual core) 11.6" Thread
I just got my 1810t. Can anyone else hear the harddrive processing requests? I can constantly hear faint crackle/static noises coming from the right side of the notebook. It isn't loud or grinding but annoying. I don want a harddrive that I going bad if that is what it is. Also when I take the computer and move it I hear something on the right side make a noise like when ur moving a vacuum back and forth. Again it's not loud and is a lite sound but still annoying. Neither of these noises are the CPU fan. Should I call acer? Thanks.

I had the same sounds with my stock WD Blue Scorpio. What version is yours? It was pretty annoying and a great excuse for a SSD Purchase

@dart22: Loving the Olympic Edition, it is just right for it! Im soooo jealous!
And one last thing:
I noticed something quite weird on my 1810T. When i got the PC on battery windows boots in 30 seconds and everything works instantly. When i got the AC Power connected it boots also in the same time, but then it hangs for about 10-20 seconds. My antivirus loads normaly, Wifi etc but i just cant open anything!
What could be wrong?

Re: Acer Aspire 1410 and 1810 Timeline (dual core) 11.6" Thread
Strange, my new 640 Gb WD Blue edition is death silent in my 1810 TZ and so was the WD 500 Gb Blue edition I had it in before. Actually all of my WD Blue edition harddrives are totally silent in all my notebooks.
Kind regards Jesper

Re: Acer Aspire 1410 and 1810 Timeline (dual core) 11.6" Thread
While I dont know about the hdd seeking noise since I have the HGST one in mine, the "noise" heard when moving the notebook might be the sound of the disk head retracting to prevent the head from hitting the spinning disk platter and causing a hdd head crash. Alot of modern hdds have this as a safety feature.
If you want to check how the hdd is, try reading the S.M.A.R.T info and monitor hdd temp/health status through HDD/SSD utility software. I use one called CrystalDiskInfo.

Re: Acer Aspire 1410 and 1810 Timeline (dual core) 11.6" Thread
Thanks for the responses. I have the stock WD Blue Scorpio. Maybe I should just upgrade because it is annoying? If i hear more people with the same seeking noise, maybe thats the answer. I had a 1410 which was deadly silent as well.... You really think the vacuum noise (faint) is the head retracting?
Thanks

Re: Acer Aspire 1410 and 1810 Timeline (dual core) 11.6" Thread
Following up on previous posts: battery pulled from unit for > 24 hours, plugged in and checked battery bar, 0% loss where I would have expected 5-6% if it wasn't removed.
Which means, unfortunately, it's not the battery, and Acer won't be able to help me there. It looks to be an issue with the laptop itself, causing the excessive drain.
Perhaps a BIOS updated will take care of it?Gaming: SG-05; GA-H77N; i5 3350P; 8GB; 80GB 10000, 320GB 7200; 7850; 2230GN; BT; U2410(HDMI); Win8 Pro
