First, is there possibly just one zip/executable file to install? I tried the zip file for fan speed control and it wouldnt start because of a missing DLL.

Next, I looked at the main zip which has the 1810 tray executable as well as something called devcon and hd parm etc.

Is there possible a user manual I can get started with or some explanation of the simplicity of this somewhere...

Fifty pages of searching isn't really feasible.

    Thanks in advance.

    EDIT:

I have since started 1810tray and found my fan to stop immediately when on. Next it came up with an error saying ...Unhandled exception...

It then told me there was an unrecognized/approved 32 bit application. I clicked to continue and now the prog doesnt work.

Thught if I waited until the bugs were ironed out Ide be the better...not so..
got the .40? try to delete the registry keys (search for "Intek", should be somewhere in the Software Section) after that it may work again.

I got the same errors, but since .38 they are gone, so maybe there is another problem with ur configuration....

Ok...got it working. Is there any type of a guide which tells me what I can do with this? My problem seemed to be related to the 'touchpad rotator"...

Where should this be unzipped to?

Got it working... Next question is where do I find info on all the options that may assist on my decisions to apply them or not...ie....Apply Intel GFX Settings

    Hey Les,
glad to see you finally got around to instaling 1810Tray

User guide? Well heck, you are the guru of User / Tweak guides, Les - we've all been waiting on you to write it

Actually, you can break 1810Tray down in three areas: fan control, devices control and overclocking / undervolting. You will manage the first two on your own (or with a little help from your NBR friends) and the latter depends on HW mods which I assume you haven't done to your 1810T... yet

P.S. The most important first step is to understand that "native" is equivalent to turning 1810Tray's fan control off, should you decide you'd rather tweak things first, before going to the auto option... secondly CTj Max needs to be manually set for your CPU (check Intel's spec sheet).

EDIT: I take one thing back; "undervolting" does not require a HW mod but cannot lower your CPU's "lowest voltage". Instead, it will maintain the lowest voltage when your CPU shifts to it's full multiplier. In other words, the system normally lowers the voltage as the multiplies is lowered & visa-versa. 1810Tray prevents it from raising the voltage when the multiplier is raised

Yes.....like it alot with respect to its fan control. I never thought there was any problem initially just thought it frustrating at the fact that the fan would go on immediately when plugged in.

So. if I check off the undervolting....will it automatically undervolt the way it is set and will that increase battery life. Willl it also reduce power?

I am also curious about the setting check boxes and how they can assist me...

Im an OS tweak guy....and an ssd guy...but hardware.....obviously I have lots to learn.

What exactly is the reason that the fancontrol cannot be adapted to other models?

I have a 8471 and the fan is actually the only thing that annoys me enough to maybe return this otherwise perfect notebook...

Ok...for Inteks...(or really anyone with the knowledge)

I have tried playing with the program a bit and am happy with the better control of the fan. Its a trade off really because, although the fan is not needed at the lower temperatures, it does a great job of keeping the system very cool at all times. Mine is hardly warm to the touch at all in normal usage with it off yet much warmer with 1810T Tray controlling the fan.

I would like to find some literature or knowledge somewhere on the choices that can be made right side of the ProfileConfigurationPage as well ideas with respect to device control on the same page.

As well, on the profiles page my "Select Profile On" menu doesn't work at all.

Also, if i simply check off the undervolting at the recommended .875, is that going to save me battery life. I will concede I saw better battery life with the fan control, however, I am already in excess of 8 hours on average use in any case which is way more than I ever had.

    Thanks ahead.

    Nice Work.

Is there a Way to get it work on the Travelmate 8371-352G16n?
The fan is very loud and nerving.

the comboboxes are empty until you create at least 1 profile

to create a profile setup all the settings you like
i.e max gfx performance, powersheme at high, disable unneeded devices (and services) than type a name i.e. "gaming" in the textbox on the left bottom and click save.
after that you can select it in the context menu.

it can also a simple resolution profile
select "change dislayresolution" type 1024 and 768 name it 1024x768 then save it
then you can quickly change the display resolution.

it is so implementet that the profiles are not revertet if you select and other profile.
you can create power related profiles and device enable/disable profiles seperatly and then select them 1 by 1 to combine them

you can also create a program as device. i.e a torrent client
if you enable this "utorrent device" in you surfing profile it could be terminated in you gaming profile

you have to check the checkbox to get undervolting...
and yes it should save batterypower. and the cpu should run cooler !!! mine is 1-2 degree cooler (tested on heavy stress for longer time with fanspeed fixed at "slow")

    have fun

    Sorry for this long text....
Here is an update: found out that 0x20 at offset 0x55 turns the fan off, 0x00 goes back to native again - or so. Will look into that tomorrow. Just to spare you some reading time

    Hi!

Trying to adapt this for an Extensa 5635zg, stupid fan driving me nuts...
Overall cooling seems to be quite powerful, even with unthrottled GPU and 3 instances of cpuburn running, it took ages to climb 64° (thats where I gave up).
In theory, I hoped to just fill the wonderful fanspeedcontroll-plugin with the correct values from my system. However, I am a bit stumped right now and would need some input...

    Recap:

0x58 and 0x5A - cpu temperatur, closely follows acpi reported readings
0x57 and 0x59 - seems to be another thermal sensor, 10-20 lower than cpu

The offset-pairs report the same temperature, respectively. lm-sensors shows the internal thermal sensor for each core, however it seems these are missing from EC. Now, my fan blasts away as soon as cpu reaches 40°, which basically means, all the time... Here is what I found out about fan-related EC offsets:

    0x5D - fan indicator: 0=off / 1=on
    0x5E and 0x55 - fan level: 0=off / 1=low / 2=medium / 3=full / 4=insane
    0x5C - fan "rpm": 0=off / 69=low / 37=medium / 11=full (roughly, changes slightly)

Problem is - when I change fan indicator or rpm, my values are quickly overwritten by the "native" settings and have no effect.
Fan level can be manually adjusted at 0x5E (1-4 and more) and changes fan speed, but it can not turned off. Setting 0x00 has no effect, and gets updated when the level changes natively. Setting values at 0x55 does not change anything, they switch back when the level changes again

(Strange thing is, value 41 at 0x5E turns the fan off, but this can not be a good thing since indicator and rpm values go mad, and it took some time before ec fan control kicked in again even after setting the level back to 1. All changes were made with rw-everything/acer_ec.pl. )

Should I look for another offset? Nothing else catched my eye yet, but maybe I have to start testing again. Could it be there is a "manual mode" - switch somewhere?

This row looks like it could hold temp tresholds, but I had no luck raising the lower numbers:
    Code:
      	02	03	04	05	06	07	08	09	0A	0B	0C	0D
    E0 |	40	43	40	53	50	65	60	75	70	85	80	127
    Any ideas/pointers very welcome!
