ACER Aspire 5610 Factory Reset

Hey all.

I am trying to perform a factory reset for a Acer laptop but I cannot find an option that I am looking for.

I hit ALT + F10 at bootup and I get to the eRecovery Management screen.

From here, I get two choices:

1. Restore system to factory default.
2. Restore system from CD/DVD

As, I do not have any DVDs, I choose option 1. After that, the recovery process continues without any more prompts and restores the laptop to its default settings.

Here is the problem but. The laptop has a 120GB Had drive which after factory reset is split into 2 partitions of 55GB each with the remaining 10GB for the hidden recovery partition. Thus there is 3 partitions in total.

As it is Vista Premium, C: is already 50% full straight after the factory reset.

Is there any way I can perform the reset and have an option to just have one C drive of 110GB? I did not see any such option when performing the reset by using ALT + F10. There doesn't seem to be an option for this when performing the reset from within Windows itself.

I was thinking maybe deleting the D partiton before performing the reset may help but I am not 100 percent sure as I am not sure if the factory image contains 1 or 2 partitions.

You can delete the partition, and then expand C: to take up the entire 110 GB.

Do you think that if I do that, it will cause any problems if I want to restore to factory defaults in the future.

I have read in a few places that playing with the partitions can interfere with the recovery process.

Not that I can see how given that as it is an image being restored to the drive. It shouldn't really matter if you have 1,2,3,4,5,6 partitions etc. After factory reset, you are back to the default 3 partitions (C,D and hidden partition). Is this right?

Yes, if you want to do factory restore in future you will have to revert the partitions to it's original state(two partitions of approximately equal size).
