Re: CPU and GPU upgrade on Acer Aspire 6930G
The 9600M GT would be 512MB with GDDR3, however most of the HD 4650/4670 that I have been able to locate are all 1GB DDR2 by the looks of things, I am not sure if the same card in DDR3 is available or not.
Given those parameters, is it worth it to upgrade my 9600M DDR2?

Re: CPU and GPU upgrade on Acer Aspire 6930G
A quick note to this request for information, it turns out my current GPU is actually a 9600M GS 512MB, which I assume is DDR2 since it is a lower end card.
Given this new information, would the 9600M GT 512MB GDDR3 be a significant improvement to my card?

Yes. 9600 with higher core clock faster RAM and still some potential for OC would be a good upgrade over 9500GS.

@MK1981: Check your RAM type in GPU-Z - I've seen plenty of 9600M GS cards with GDDR3.
@downloads: He said 9600M GS, not 9500M GS. A different animal altogether.Acer Aspire 5720ZG "Maximum Overdrive": CPU: T9300 | VGA: GT 230M, 1GB DDR3 (MXM-II, taken from a Toshiba A500) | RAM: 4GB | Display: 1920x1200 "LP154WU1-TLC1" | BIOS: V1.45 "Black edition V4.0"

I can add that this laptop was purchased in the fall of 2008, from a big box store in Canada, so I am doubtful that they would use an inferior card to the available 9600m GT option, yet decide to use the GDDR3 inside the 9600M GS pre-installed.
I am a bit unsure as to how I check the GPU-Z as I am somewhat of a neophyte when it come to this stuff.
I am leaning towards buying the 9600M GT 512MB DDR3 from ebay at this point, since it appears it will be a solid upgrade that is readily available.

Re: CPU and GPU upgrade on Acer Aspire 6930G
Reboot in safe mode and install drivers from Nvidia.com or LV2go.
@MK1981: A "big box store" has nothing to do with the video RAM type. Video RAM is not installed in the form of modules; it is soldered on the MXM card. There are plenty of 9600M GS MXM cards in existence with GDDR3 memory.Acer Aspire 5720ZG "Maximum Overdrive": CPU: T9300 | VGA: GT 230M, 1GB DDR3 (MXM-II, taken from a Toshiba A500) | RAM: 4GB | Display: 1920x1200 "LP154WU1-TLC1" | BIOS: V1.45 "Black edition V4.0"
