Re: The Acer Aspire Timeline 1410 and 1810T 11.6" Thread
This new class of cheap ultra portables is the reason that my next gaming device will be a desktop again. I got rid of a desktop years ago and bought gaming laptops since because I thought it would be a good compromise to cover both worlds in one device.
I bought a cheap netbook just to check what this hype is all about, tweaked it a lot and now I rarely use my full size notebook any more.
A netbook is just slightly too slow and has got slightly too little screen realestate, so a 1810t is the logical consequence to complete the split into two devices again. Two devices that offer more portability and power for the same price as an all-in-one device.
Reagarding gaming, I had loads of fun while playing good old Half-Life, Baldur's Gate and Wizardry on my netbook
If you have a weaker device you start looking at that amazingly good old titles again and ask yourself: Why the hell don't they program something with good gameplay these days instead of just emphasizing on crispy graphics?!

Re: The Acer Aspire Timeline 1410 and 1810T 11.6" Thread
also I dont think there is an HDMI port on the dell. I really am looking forward form moving on up to HDMI on my netbook. I think I am going to wait for the dual core version as well. I like the idea of youtube HD video working.
I noticed someone posting that they would go with the core solo with the chance of overclocking. Are the dual core harder to overclock. Never had one so I wouldn't know.

Re: The Acer Aspire Timeline 1410 and 1810T 11.6" Thread
It gets really hot, and only has a X3100 graphics slow... better option is the HP 2510P similar specs but better built, some of the guys at my last place (Sales people) used both, and the Dells were in the "shop" a lot more than the HP's and looked real ugly after only 3 months
lots of bits .. some window$ and some O$X.. oh and a Jeep and a....

Packard Bell is being sold under the Gateway brand name in US.
Materials. It uses some aluminium. While the 3810T is mostly plastic As far as I know.I just realized that the PB in the link is obviously based on the Acer 3810T. Looks good, but why is it 0.2kg heavier??
I know. It's just an example of SU3500 battery life. And they did better than the Timeline.
It's not a bad deal but the Acer is a lot more stylish. Also, I doubt the real weight of the Dell with 6 cell is 3.2 pounds if you put it on a scale. Another drawback for me would be the 1.8" ATA hard drive. It won't take an Intel Gen 2 or Scorpio Black. Options for 1.8" ATA are a lot more limited.Last edited by Phil; 18th August 2009 at 03:03 AM.

Re: The Acer Aspire Timeline 1410 and 1810T 11.6" Thread
I tried to find information about the SU4100 processor, but even in the Intel site there is nothing about it. How it is possible when there are even some places that are selling this netbook with this processor (or at least they accept pre-orders)?
In my case I prefer a little more power (if the SU4100 can give that) instead of one additional hour of battery life over the SU3500 model. But I would like to quantify how much (aprox.) is the increment of power and the reduction of battery time compared to the SU3500.
I will use to quick retouch (Photoshop and capture NX) and send my photos after a basketball game in the press room.
Does anybody have some information (performance test, etc.) about this processor?
Thanks for your help, specially to Phil for the great job !

Re: The Acer Aspire Timeline 1410 and 1810T 11.6" Thread
I'm pretty sure that having a properly tweaked and clean installation, loads of RAM and a fast HDD or SSD makes more of a difference than having one or two cores in most tasks. Both su3100 and su4100 should handle everything okay. At the end of the day both will wait for the HDD to finish reading or writing. Especially when doing photo editing and such.

It happens more often that Intel doesn't really announce CPUs.
It's something like this (Passmark CPU rating), I expect:Does anybody have some information (performance test, etc.) about this processor?
SU3500 490
SU4100 770
SU9400 920
PS. Good to hear you enjoyed the review.
This is so true. But most people don't know this
And most people just let their Windows installation clutter up.

Re: The Acer Aspire Timeline 1410 and 1810T 11.6" Thread
Hey, great review! I think this laptop really has done everything right. A couple of questions though:
1. Phil, have you tried the DivX h.264 codec and tested video playback with MPC? How does it compare with cyberlink and dxva enabled?
2. Is J&R the only US store with the laptop available (any ETA on the preorder)?
3. Any ETA on the beefier, 1810TZ version?
Thanks!XPS M1530 C2D T7500 2.2GHz | 3GB RAM | 250GB 5400rpm | 8600M GT 256MB GDDR3 | LG 1440 x 900
