    Hey all,

I have been keeping an eye on this forum since half a year. Just a few days ago I created an account.

Now I have a question myself.

Is it hard to upgrade an laptop vid card?
I have an acer 5520G with a nvidia 8600m gs mxm II card.

My eye felt on a geforce 9650M GT CLICK. I saw Arminator changed his videocard in his 5520G with this card. But does it work inmediatly or do i need to change a lot of stuff.

I know a guy that had a mxm rom problem so his laptop would start with 30s wait time and balanced performance.

Hope you guys can help me out

    @Bo0bz

Basically, all you have to do is take out the old card and put in the new one...

Also you will have to take the screw plate from the back of 8600m GS and put it instead the one that comes with 9650m gt unless you want to change four screws for your gpu heatsink...

Also I had to do some modding on my heatsink (I did it yesterday)...
On the upper right corner (on the back side of the heatsink where the screw number 1 is located) there is one part of heatsink that must be removed so the copper part of heatsink would completely lay down on gpu core...
Without that mod copper part didn`t lay well and I had slower cool-down of gpu and a bit higher temps so I needed to use cooling pad...
Now I have lower temps and I am not using cooling pad (even lower than when used cooling pad before )...

Also you will have to use latest driver which can be downloaded from nvidias site...

    Hope this was helpful...

And the card you provided in your link is the same one I bought, I mean the same seller so I would recommend it... Quite fast shipping and in safe package...

If you need MXM II, then I would question your sources even for new.

If it's an MXM-A card, then no one is selling theirs since there is nothing to really upgrade to yet.

Forgot to take pics when I was modding...
Now I am waiting for Arctic Silver 5, so when I change my paste I ll take some shots, because taking heatsink out again is a quite procedure...

You can simply make an paypal account linked to your bank account. I did it and you don't need an creditcard or what so ever.

    Try it!

You are also protected for the first $200,-
I know but you still need the 4 security digits for your bank account. But I just ordered a card trough a normal bank transfer from Ice-Tea / Kris at mxm-upgrade.com so unless my card will overheat with the standard included thermal pad and I'll need to buy some copper, my 4 digit issue with my bank account can wait :P

Kinda ironic, right after I send the money to mxm-upgrade for my new gpu I noticed my laptop lcd is dying... It has 3 dark shade areas and it takes quite a while before they are lit up. But my acer can forget getting a new screen, I just ordered an external 23 inch full hd monitor (which costs less than replacing an internal laptop screen) so i'll be using this laptop as a deksktop replacement system anyway.

After having upgraded the ram, bought an external screen (will arrive this week hopefully) and the new gpu which I just ordered, my last upgrade will be a new hard drive, and I don't plan on spending a cent more before the second generation of Sandy Bridge will be released.
