I think he meant form-factor 2 as in MXM 2.1 since the 4850 should be a MXM-III card.

I mailed an inquiry to the seller, since there aren't much details about the cards there.

But are there supposed to be 512MB DDR3 HD4650 cards in MXM? I thought they were only found on soldered HP GPU's.

Ok, for the 8930G users I have some good and bad news!

I've bought a ati HD 3870 mxm 2.1 III card from ebay.

It is from an alienware lappie. Just tried the card and it works! No warning screens no BS.

But the rear mounting plate for the ati is different from the nvidia. So I need the get a second mounting plate and take it apart for the heatsink to be mounted propperly. Doen anyone know what the partnumber for that is or where I can buy a mountingplate?

I just applied a thick layer of mx-2 to test it for a short time because the heatsink was kinda loose. So I could not test it long enough to make any benches... Was worried it might toast itself.

Try a copper mod to fill the gaps.

no its not that. The rear mounting plate is different from the one on the 9700m gt. On the back of the card are transistors . This is different from the nvidia.

@spaanplaat - Congrats mate, you finally made it How comes that the mounting plate is different?! Can you post some pics? I wont be worried about the thick layer of MX-2 paste, I have 1mm thick one on my North Bridge from 6 months now and I have no problems You can always monitor your temps with GPU-Z if you are not confident

On the back off the ati card there are running some sort of transistors. They are right in the way where the backplate from the Nvidia would be. So if I would try it I would certainly damage the Ati card. At the moment I cannot post any pics because I'm @ work. I will do so when I got the time. For now I need to find a second backplate or an original one that came with the Ati card.

Edit: Found the partnumber 33.AP70N.001 and ordered it! Now hope it will be shipped soon.

That's why I asked. My HD3650 came with a mounting plate, but I'd removed it, because 5920G doesn't use one. Anyway, it has transistors underneath, so I don't think that it would be a problem for you either. I seriously doubt that your new plate would differ from your current one, I hope that I'm wrong though

Inside the mounting plate are the housings for the screws that fix the VGA heatsink to the card. Without the mounting plate the heatsink is sitting loose and the screws on the vga heatsink are sticking to far out so the back cover on the 8930g cannot be closed anymore.

The one I ordered should be the same as the one I have now.
I plan to disassemble the original mounting plate and glue the screw housings onto the hd 3870.
