Thread: Acer MXM Models and Cards

Re: Acer MXM Models and Cards
Cards that work in the C90 plug and play guaranteed are the ATI 4670 and 3650 both GDDR3 and GDDR2 models. The asus built Nvidia 8600M GT again both 256mb GDDR3 and 512mb GDDR2 models. Also with some tweaking the 9600M GT 512mb GDDR3 works fine.
The 9650M GT and GT130M also work however even more fiddly than the 9600M GT to get running at full speed.
Hopefully soon I will get hands on a 4850 so will see how it likes mxm III cards
space permitting which is very tight (modifications complete lol) I don't see too many reasons why it should't post presently...
In relation to the 5920g with fixed mxm bios I didn't know about that so thank you for correcting me. I thought the 4670 was plug and play with it like the C90Alienware M15x | Intel i7 920XM | 1080p | 8GB G-Skill | Samsung 470 256GB + Hitachi 7k500 500GB | AMD 7970M @ 950/1450 (1.05V)| External Sony BD5500S Bluray | Windows 7 | 240W + 9 cell | Bigfoot 1103 | USB 3.0 |

Re: Acer MXM Models and Cards
It is PnP. MXM fix is for 9600M GT and few other nVIDIAs.

Re: Acer MXM Models and Cards
I have no idea why everybody keep suggestion me a ATI card. But, I'm most likely going for the GTS 250M, if I can't find any other nVidia card, which I do like more

Re: Acer MXM Models and Cards
Because the 250M is a joke in comparison.
It's like your saying:
You: "I want car A from brand B."
Us: "Car X from brand Y is more efficient, more powerful and card carry more"
You: "I want car A from brand B."
Us: "Why?"
You: "I want car A from brand B."
Us: "Car X from brand Y is also cheaper and newer"
You: "I want car A from brand B."
Ok, go with the GTS250m, pay more for a card that draws more power, is half as fast and is not going to get any performance updates from Nvidia.
Just be aware you may be embarrassed by the 6770M owners when you compare benchmarks.Sales@PowerNotebooks.com | Phone: (US) 877-711-1777 - CALL US FOR NOTEBOOKREVIEW ACTIVE MEMBER DISCOUNTS

Re: Acer MXM Models and Cards
He obviously prefers Nvidia. However I think ATI makes superior cards especially after the 8600M GT fiasco!
On the subject however if the card is ;
1.)Cheaper
2.)Faster
3.)Cooler
why on earth would one not get it ??Alienware M15x | Intel i7 920XM | 1080p | 8GB G-Skill | Samsung 470 256GB + Hitachi 7k500 500GB | AMD 7970M @ 950/1450 (1.05V)| External Sony BD5500S Bluray | Windows 7 | 240W + 9 cell | Bigfoot 1103 | USB 3.0 |

Re: Acer MXM Models and Cards
Classic "driver support" - argument incoming ?

I never understood the ati/nvidia hate, had cards of both companies and no real problems!

Re: Acer MXM Models and Cards
No both make decent cards that are compareable to each other but many of us were affected by failing 8600M GT myself several times and ATI came to rescue. I still would buy nvidia if they release a well priced high performing part that competed against ATI for mxm 2.1 II which won't happen lol

Re: Acer MXM Models and Cards
I have used 2 diffrent laptop with ATI cards, and for some reason, nVidia is the thing for me. As I for some reason never bought a AMD CPU... I can really live with 10 less FPS, rather then a ATI card.
However, no point continue this, another question, does new cards still be relased to MXM A? Or is this just dead and GTS250M is the best nVidia card that Acer will ever fit?MacBook Pro

Re: Acer MXM Models and Cards
It could well be the difference between 15fps and 30fps or 30fps and 60fps.
No one wants to put an Nvidia chip on MXM-A it seems.Sales@PowerNotebooks.com | Phone: (US) 877-711-1777 - CALL US FOR NOTEBOOKREVIEW ACTIVE MEMBER DISCOUNTS
