Yep, I would rather choose Acer sourced GPU, than MSI one with questionable compatibility. Sadly, MSI's HD4670 is the only way if you want a DDR3 HD46xx, at least for now

Hi there, just finished searching the forums but didn't find anything related to what i'm going to ask..

I'm planning a massive upgrade for my AS6920G which now has the HD3650 512MB. I want to buy an HD4650 (from ACER spare parts) which is As far as I know MXMII like the one I have now. The problem is, is it going to work? I was also thinking about the 9600GT but as i read there are too many problems that i don't want to try and solve right now :P

It's been working for at least two, maybe 3 people on the 5920G. Unless it's whitelisted on the 6920G (unlikely), I'd say it's worth a shot!

Hi genesistr, and welcome to the forums!
We're not certain what kind of MXM the Aspire 5738G has, namely because it's so new.
It could be MXM-II (and thus compatible with the Radeon HD 4650) or MXM-A (and thus not).
The only ways to know for sure would be to acquire the service guide (which can't be posted/shared on NBR) or open the system up and take a look-see.

Would any 4650/70 mxm 2 cards work in my asus C90P? Or are this locked to acer bios?

Not sure KoI - it depends on what cards ASUS's BIOS accepts.
A shame they barely supported MXM.

As far as I know the bios accepts any unlocked vbios mxm 2 card. People have been successful with the 9600M GT DDR3 and asus have replaced one person's 8600M GT with a 9650MGT DDR2 card. I tried a DDR3 9650M GT but it didn't quite fit the heatspreader or run at full speed.

Any ideas where I could buy an HD4650/70 MXMII ? I checked ebay and acerparts and i can't find one available. Moreover, acerparts reports the price of the HD4650 at 9,700 Euros LOL, no way i'm paying that much :P

    Hi there,
I am a bit confused here....
The first post states that the 9300M GS is a MXMI...
However, I have read in different forums that people upgraded from the 9300 GS to the 9600GT. How come?
My laptop is the Acer Aspire 8730G-643G25Mn
Can you help me out here and tell me what type my card is as I am going to Bangkok on the first of September and I might get the chance to get something there for a fair price.
Could you tell me what will it be the best card to get for my laptop?
    Best regards

PS: If you could also tell me what BLu Ray to buy as I am not really sure whether it is a PATA or a SATA drive
