I suppose on non-raid machines (single disks) that it's controlled via device manager. This doesn't exactly explain the presence of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager software ...

    (in Vista)

-Enabling or Disabling the Disk Write Caching:
-Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
    -Click the Hardware tab.
    -Click Device Manager.
-Click the plus sign (+) next to the Disk Drives branch to expand it.
-Right-click the drive on which you want to enable or disable disk write caching, and then click Properties.
    -Click the "Policies" tab.
-Click to select or clear the Write Cache Enabled check box as appropriate.
    -Click OK.

The advanced performance checkbox is applied at your own risk, and benchmarks have traditionally given mixed results with it checked/unchecked.

Yeah, I'm just posting back and forth with another user in another forum. He has confirmed that write-back caching is only controlled with IMSM on RAID volumes. Sorry to point anyone in the wrong direction.

Then I questioned the reason for the Intel Matrix Storage Manager software at all in single disk configurations. I appears that there is a performance improvement via AHCI, but no control for write back caching in this scenario.

I'll head back and edit those other posts if I can.

Yes the HDMI out with the intel does carry audio.

As far as battery life I havent done any tests but I take this computer to work without the power cord and leave it on all day ~9 hours in the balanced mode and their is still power left when I plug it in at home to charge. The battery drops much quicker when playing a Bluray on the external drive I bought, so as always its really a function of what load you put on the battery. That being said the battery life on this machine BLOWS away any other laptop I have used by at least double and likely triple the life.

    Audio via HDMI -> Sweet!

    Battery life is impressive!

Sure hope we can see the ATI video at some point.

    Yep.

Jaybee, can you confirm if you get audio through your HDMI->TV using the ATI video on your unit?

Sidenote, do you have two different machines, you list both Intel and ATI video in your sig?

I'm dying to get a 4810TG. Just waiting for the day it's available here in the US.

I'm not sure what the ATI video will do that the Intel can't handle? Maybe 3d game graphics? I'm not sure the processor can do much in the way of gaming. I have had no problems playing HD video files, Bluray, streaming video, java, etc with the Intel video.

True, it's only interesting for gaming and some HD video editing.
