Re: Acer Aspire Timeline Owner's Lounge
I suppose on non-raid machines (single disks) that it's controlled via device manager. This doesn't exactly explain the presence of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager software ...
(in Vista)
-Enabling or Disabling the Disk Write Caching:
-Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
-Click the Hardware tab.
-Click Device Manager.
-Click the plus sign (+) next to the Disk Drives branch to expand it.
-Right-click the drive on which you want to enable or disable disk write caching, and then click Properties.
-Click the "Policies" tab.
-Click to select or clear the Write Cache Enabled check box as appropriate.
-Click OK.
The advanced performance checkbox is applied at your own risk, and benchmarks have traditionally given mixed results with it checked/unchecked.

Re: Acer Aspire Timeline Owner's Lounge
Yeah, I'm just posting back and forth with another user in another forum. He has confirmed that write-back caching is only controlled with IMSM on RAID volumes. Sorry to point anyone in the wrong direction.
Then I questioned the reason for the Intel Matrix Storage Manager software at all in single disk configurations. I appears that there is a performance improvement via AHCI, but no control for write back caching in this scenario.
I'll head back and edit those other posts if I can.

Re: Acer Aspire Timeline Owner's Lounge
Yes the HDMI out with the intel does carry audio.
As far as battery life I havent done any tests but I take this computer to work without the power cord and leave it on all day ~9 hours in the balanced mode and their is still power left when I plug it in at home to charge. The battery drops much quicker when playing a Bluray on the external drive I bought, so as always its really a function of what load you put on the battery. That being said the battery life on this machine BLOWS away any other laptop I have used by at least double and likely triple the life.
