Re: Aspire 3003WLMi Screen Problem
I've never seen that happen on an LCD screen before, so I don't know if it will help, but have you tried updating the bios?

Re: Aspire 3003WLMi Screen Problem
It looks like it's displaying 1024x768 on a 1280x800 screen, which would explain the black borders on the right and bottom edges. Normally though, the 1024x768 display should get resized to fill the whole screen. Maybe there's a setting in the Display configuration for the SiS chipset?
I would definitely suspect a software or BIOS issue, not hardware. Try updating the BIOS and the graphics driver.
You might also want to try 1280x800. That would give you more screen space and actually improve the sharpness since it's the native resolution for widescreen LCDs such as yours.
Have you connected an external monitor at some point?

Re: Aspire 3003WLMi Screen Problem
Standard monitors typically use 4:3 resolutions (640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, etc), while widescreen monitors use 16:10 resolutions (e.g. 1280x800), so your graphics chip must switch resolutions when you toggle from the built-in LCD to an external monitor. I don't think you can display a 16:10 resolution on a 4:3 monitor (if you try, you'll most likely see black), at least not on your typical monitor.
I would check the display configuration for some setting to configure a different resolution for the external monitor VS the built-in LCD. You might have to press a hotkey to toggle modes. I can't give you specific steps for your chipset though because I don't have a SiS chipset.
Try unplugging the external monitor before setting the resolution to 1280x800.Last edited by BitMaker; 16th January 2006 at 11:26 AM.

Re: Aspire 3003WLMi Screen Problem
I've never hooked up an external monitor, so I don't know if that would affect anything. There are some settings in the eManager that have to do with resolution and which monitor to display to. Press the 'e' button by the power button. And you could try turning off the external monitor, just choose the 'LCD panel only' for Display Device.
