Re: Aspire 5515 drivers?
From Acers website, they offer 3 different ones for Vista:
WLAN Atheros T77H053 v7.6.0.164
WLAN Foxconn 4312 v4.170.64.5
WLAN Ralink T77H028 v2.0.8.0
Has anyone gotten an Ralink yet?

Re: Aspire 5515 drivers?
Hey there. With the driver files that are zipped to switch from vista to xp, do they have to be unzipped and then stored onto disc prior to install or will the system unzip them and install? I'm assuming I need to unzip them first to access the exe files. Am on i on the right track?
Also, is the AMD64 in these things a 64 bit system? What is the difference with this?
I check with a guy at my work who works on computers and wonders if this computer is running on a 64 bit system. According to him, XP pro won't recognize the 4 megs of ram I have and that I need to load a XP 64 bit os for it to do so. I am planning on loading regular Xp pro and wonder will I be ok with that? Does anyone agree with this guy?Last edited by mark44004; 20th February 2009 at 09:41 AM. Reason: additional info

Re: Aspire 5515 drivers?
you can burn the zip files onto disc or put them on a usb stick, after you install xp, just drag the zip files onto desktop & open zip file & run setup, follow prompts to restart if required.
the aspire 5515 is a 32 bit sysyem, amd64 is just the cpu, has nothing to do with 64 bitacer aspire 5515 purchased from wal-mart
xp drivers can be found here post #22

Re: Aspire 5515 drivers?
Found only one bug on this thing so far with XP on it....
Anyone else not able to come out of deep "Hybernate"???
Hit the spacebar and it goes to the login screen (I shouldn't have to login), but it doesn't actually show any login box. It's just stuck there. I have to turn off the computer and restart.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Actually, I'm thinking this might have to do with my Outpost Firewall, cause, I'm remember now coming out of Hybernate worked just fine previous to installing my Outpost. Thought I would check with others though.

Re: Aspire 5515 Hanging during Vista install
Hello everyone,
This is regarding the issue I saw posted on Vista "hanging" during install. this is prolly not going to work for all applications but it did work for me.
After countless attempts to install Vista with no success, I decided to remove HD from Acer laptop and placed it in another laptop then installed Vista on second laptop using the OEM Key that came with Acer PC. Then replaced the HD into the Acer and it recongized eveything with the exception of a few drivers (ie. network, video etc.)
Just in case anyone is not aware of this, if you are using a "Vista Ultimate" Disk, it will install any version of Vista as long as you use the corresponding OEM key for the version you need to install.
Anyways great help here with all the "other" Acer issues I've had and I hope this helps someone in return.
Peace

Re: Aspire 5515 drivers?
Microsoft has to force Vista down our throats because nobody likes it. They are going to get paid regardless of what the people think.

Re: Aspire 5515 drivers?
Hey Everyone...
I'm hoping that I'm overlooking something basic, but I can't get my video straightened out.
I have one of the WallyWorld Acer Aspire 5515's.
In an effort to avoid all the junk preloaded I wanted to install my stand alone upgrade XP copy, and searched Google for info and found my way here.
I followed along with a previous post (FreeHeart4Sale's advice & Drivers) concerning installing XP.
Everything worked very well and was mostly straight forward, except when I try to install the "Integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 1200 graphics (display drivers exact match)" executable...the install fails and I get A "Severe" error which says:
Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit."
Am I missing something here?
The "FreeHeart4Sale" supplied driver seems to work fine for everyone else...
I've tried to let windows find it's own online through Device Manager and it doesn't pick up anything either. The VGA video listing in Device Manager has a Yellow "?" indicating a problem.
I'm really happy with this machine and would hate to have to use Vista.
Any help would be very much appreciated...Thanks in Advance.
