Re: Acer Aspire 8930G Owner's Lounge
Hi, the trouble with that benchmark is that I believe it is added to by individuals, thus it cannot be possible to compare like for like. I could put my desktop q6600 in there and it would give many CPU's a good thrashing, seeing how it's running at 3.6ghz.
Still back on topic, I'm in agreement that Acers spec have variations, thus it is difficult to see what you are actually getting. However my laptop was advertised as having DDR3, and thats what I got. Unfortuantely though, the site where I got it from is no longer advertising them :-(

I must agree with chriscatt, don't count on some synthetic benchmarks. In my opinion in real life the quad will hardly outperform the C2D unless you're running some heavy, cpu intensive application which actually support quads and use all cores. So if the price difference is huge and you're not planning to perform CPU intensive task go for the C2D. Though...for future-proof laptop quad might be the way to go..

Hi, or, if the bios supports it, and more than likely it will if it's the same model, purchased a quad later on when the prices have come down and sell off your old processor :-)

Re: Acer Aspire 8930G Owner's Lounge
Hi, I'm a new member of the Acer club and this is my first time in a forum, as to your problem, the best and easiest way is to use either a USB flash drive 16Gb or an external hard drive, and lastly, a duel layer DVD or 2, either way you will have them saved to an external source should you have a problem with your laptop and have to restore it,
Hope this helps.

Re: Acer Aspire 8930G Owner's Lounge
For the people concerned about DDR3 i bought mine in canada. My system also shows DDR3 like that in the epowering settings. But like I posted here before its only running at 400mhz, even though it shows in CPU-Z it is corsair ddr3 which can like go even up in to the 600mhz. I flashed the bios to the latest like i stated before, didn't change anything. I think its the cpu that is holding it back as it is only t5800 which has 400mhz fsb. I thought the ram would run at its own speed regardless. Acer support is dumb as hell when I emailed them about the bios update and possible new ones, they said they dont support 3rd party inquries lol! Then I emailed them again that this is a bios question and they say to call the phone support haha. I say screw it, im still pretty happy with the laptop overall, it runs most games and things well enough. The screen is very nice and the blu-ray. Hopefully i can upgrade the cpu if i want to later on...

Re: Acer Aspire 8930G Owner's Lounge
Sorry to make my first post here a tech question.

I've just received my AS8930-7665 and while it's an amazing piece of work, the "5" key on the keyboard is working very oddly. Which is to say, it works about 1 out of every 10 times pressed.
It's also the key with the Euro symbol, which makes me wonder if it's something to do with the keyboard setup or if it's just a bad keyboard and I should send it back?
If anyone else has had a similar experience, it'd be great to know.
Thanks very much,
Gus

Re: Acer Aspire 8930G Owner's Lounge
Well, I have one of these lappys on order and just waiting for it to arrive
.
As many people have added an additional internal HD, I wondered if anyone has added a 500 GB drive rather than a 320 GB?
