Re: Acer Aspire 5930(G) owner thread
from what i know centrino 2 platform can use 800mhz ram and i don't think upgrading cpu is possible for laptop.you take out the 6 screws on the back and u will see the ram.and pull the latch outwards and the ram will pop out.then install your new ram by sliding it into the latch until you hear 'click'.hope it helps.cheers

RAM and CPU can be upgraded.
The level of easyness on the other hand is debatable for CPU upgrades from laptop to laptop, but it's definitely possible.

Re: Acer Aspire 5930(G) owner thread
Trying to get information from Acer is like pulling teeth from a baby.
I see some nice ram online and the stuff in here is like 533mhz I think, thats what the nomenclature on the current ram hints at.
There are several places online to check your computers ram and they have a difficult to nonexistent time at figuring it out. Its definitly cheap, generic and leaving my laptop very soon.
I just wish I could be absolutely sure, I mean 20 bucks isnt much. But I do hate to waste good memory on a machine that cant use it.
The CPU is for a later date, though I did just get a 32 inch hdtv that looks amazing with the HDMI connection.
Another question I have is, since I have a hdmi connect on this laptop. Can I hook my Xbox360 upto the laptop and play games on the lappies monitor?
Portable monitor for an xbox360 would be bad to the bone.
Thanks for all the help.

Any way to overclock GPU in Acer 5930? Tried RivaTuner, but it's not reading clocks correctly...

:-)
Laptop's LCD display is not LCD TV nor classical LCD for computer with video in. You have HDMI out not in
.
Err, you need eRecovery so you can make backup DVDs of your Vista (I guess you got Vista) as you have 10 GB hidden partition for reinstalling Vista.Acer TravelMate 5720G
Intel Core 2 Duo T7300
Samsung 2 GB DDR2 667 MHz
WD 160 GB 5400 RPM SATA
AU Optronics 15,4" WXGA CrystalBrite TFT
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 XT 256 MB DDR2
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 + Linux Mint 5 Elyssa
soon: 3 GB & some x64 Linux distro
For max Vista protection:
Norton Internet Security 2008 + PC Tools ThreatFire + SuperAntiSpyware Free + Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Re: Acer Aspire 5930(G) owner thread
I bought this very nice machine at JohnLewis last night before it closed down.
Hehe ...
Took me about 30 mins to clean up the system of useless Acer stuff, and I installed Mass Effect.
Am playing in native resolution with no hangups and maxed out settings.
The laptop does get quite warm, but dangerous levels are nowhere near in sight.
Despite it's stellar performace up until now, I'll install XP once I get back to Zagreb on Saturday most likely on it as I see Vista as a waste of space a bit.
Been working in ti before, tweaked it and all, and I don't see the advantages over XP really.
So I'll revert to XP Pro SP3 myself in about 5 days time.
As for overclocking the cpu ... hm ... I was thinking about that, but for now it's hardly needed.
I'd sooner undervolt both the gpu and the cpu before doing anything else.
Btw ... any decent coolers for notebooks (that don't cost a fortune btw) in UK or London for purchase?

Re: Acer Aspire 5930(G) owner thread
No use to overclock CPU, CPU in modern games is nothing. But GPU overclock is very useful... BTW in hard games (far cry 2) gpu is about 95C

Re: Acer Aspire 5930(G) owner thread
I have a question I hope you could help me with, I've recently bought my Acer 5930, and I've been looking for ways to install XP over the data-hungry Vista. Now, this means that I need the drivers backupped. I followed the download link, but I also found out that Acer allows you to backup your drivers rather then the entire image.
Here is my question, do these Drivers that are backupped from the current Vista driven laptop work on XP as well?Last edited by keroko; 28th October 2008 at 07:21 AM.

Nope, you'll need XP drivers. I suggest you open your "Device Manager" and write down all your devices such as graphic card, sound card, wireless, ethernet, bluetooth, webcam etc etc. before you decide to downgrade to XP. Will be easier to find 'em out later. Here is my question, do these Drivers that are backupped work on XP as well?
