Re: Acer Aspire 5930(G) owner thread
Well, I must agree that maybe after I start to use win7 it start to occur more often, but even so never in the middle of the usage, in my case the White Screen just happen when I came back from a sleep of a monitor off situation...
Anyway, now have been 2 days since i did the mod and still with no white screen... my temps are around 20oC lower after the cleaning... is amazing how it changes easily..Samsung R580 { Intel i5 520m

Re: Acer Aspire 5930(G) owner thread
The white screen is something that happened to me on a regular basis (well, the screen exhibited all kinds of issues with proper picture display, but it stems from the same issue).
In my case (and for many other people who experienced the problem), it was the video cable that caused these issues because of larger amount of opening/closing the lid.
I opened up the plastic casing where the power button is (removal is simple since there are no screws).
You have to juggle the main video cable and position it so it's not as bent near the connection to the card (and/or the hinge).
There's limited room for juggling, so it's a minor adjustment.
Nevertheless, after doing this, my image has been stable for far longer time periods and rarely throws up (practically hasn't done something like that for the past week).
The Youtube video as posted on a page before this one is essentially what should help out with this.
The only thing I want to do now is overclock my GPU while it's on 0.89V (I flashed it's BIOS to apply the undervolt some time ago).
I think a stable overclock with minimum impact on temps (I think only a 2 to 5 degrees increase from my present low temps would be noted) would be 600/1325/800.
So, keep the memory intact, core and shaders increased by 100Mhz each.
I think this 'boost', while seemingly a minor one will prove to be the most stable at 0.89V (it's the safest upper most clock at the voltage that will likely work for most people) and still give us a performance increase we need.Last edited by Deks; 2nd January 2010 at 09:56 AM.

Re: Acer Aspire 5930(G) owner thread
Ok ... I overclocked the gpu to 600/1500/900 (via Nvidia Control Panel).
:-D
Got 6460 3d Mark 06 score.
I would say that's rather decent.
But one of the more notable differences was that games were indeed more fluent.
I've been playing both Dragon Age and Star Wars Force Unleashed for the past 4 hours.
Temps were at 60 degrees for the cpu and a few degrees lower than 60 for the gpu even on these new clocks.
That's interesting to say the least.
But then again, the gpu continues to run at 0.89V with the new clocks, the CPU at 1.038V, and all that with a Zalman Cooler.
Perhaps I will experiment with the clocks even more on the gpu, bringing them slightly up (though I can imagine reaching a limit rather fast with the current undervolt of the gpu).
Hm ... perhaps I will try an increase that Kallogan has, test it, and keep it there if stable.
Question:
With the overclocks as they are now and temps as low, I find it doubtful that the gpu would experience a decrease in life expectancy, or am I mistaken?
Most arguments against overclocking is due to the increased heat being produced and shortening the lifespan as a result.
But since temps are hardly a problem (in fact, before the undervolting and cooler, they were by about 20 to 25 degrees higher), then is there a danger the gpu will have a shorter life expectancy simply because it's operating at higher clocks regardless of lower temperatures?Last edited by Deks; 3rd January 2010 at 12:36 AM.

Any modern core 2 duo will likely work.

Re: Acer Aspire 5930(G) owner thread
Guys, another up question in the thread:
Did anyone already try the 3D Vision??? I was searching for the stereoscopic at my driver, on the NVidia Control Panel, but I could not find. I have installed the latest drivers, and used the .inf from laptop2go to make it compatible (cuz I was unable to find the option on the mobile driver also).
I just experimented it on a store, it was quit enjoyable, anyone tried also to give an opinion?Samsung R580 { Intel i5 520m

Re: Acer Aspire 5930(G) owner thread
To enjoy the glasses yes! That is the ideal set-up, but there's a 3D Vision Discover
, that give us the opportunity of try a stereoscopic in color mode, that one that we can use simple red/blue glasses.
I was assembling a PC in my work and when I installed the nvidia drivers of a GTX295 I got this options, so I came to search into my note, and even doing the update I could not find.
Yesterday searching into the regedit I was able to see that there're some entries that refer to this 3DVision, I changed then, but nothing happened.
I found into this forum about that and maybe if we downgrade the drivers and installed a modded .inf we can make use of this 3D Discover... but I didn't try yet.
BTW, my white screens still... today and yesterday I had then again, it's obvious a software problem, but I already format my system, update the bios, got the newest drivers, well I do not know what else I can do..
