    Default aspire 5315 boot problem

I receive an error message shortly into boot following the ACER intel screen where you can press f2 to enter setup.

this error can be caused by unplugging a removeable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. make sure any removeable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.

    File: \windows\system32\winload.exe

    status: 0xc00000e9

info: an unexpected I/O error has occured

I've been looking all over the net for any way that might solve this problem and hav been unable to do so, so far. I've tried recovering my bios with ASPIRE 5315 BIOS RECOVERY using a USB THUMBDRIVE still same prob.

And unfortuanatly this pc runs on vista and I don't have a recovery disk for it. I onl have a recovery disk for another machine but when I tried to use it I got a message saying I can't use that disk in this machine. Bummer. Is there anyway to get a recovery disk for vista machines or perhaps someone knows another way to fix this problem. Or what I'm thinking is the HDD is screwed and I need a new one.

It's my sisters computer and she said it froze up on her and she took the battery out of it while it was running to shut it off. Something she does a lot she said. -_- also I think she may have dropped it at the time so another reason something could be damage :-\

THE PROBLEM IS NOT YOUR BIOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

let me guess you have also formatted the HDD and the hidden recovery partition is no longer there either??

try pressing ALT+F10 when you see the message to press F2 to enter setup... then follow the on screen instructions.

a file has become corrupted! the problem is most likely caused by the improper shutdown, but it is totally possible that the area of the HDD where the damaged file is stored may have been corrrupted when the PC was dropped...

if you can't do the ALT+F10 recovery method, then you have a few options,

    1) buy a set of recovery DVDs from ACER
    2) buy a retail copy of vista, or borrow a retail vista DVD and install with the key on bottom of the laptop
    3) send the PC back to ACER for repair... if doing this DO NOT mention that it may have been dropped... just tell how it wouldn't shut down and so you pulled the battery.... now it won't boot.....

    4) my personal favorite... INSTALL XP using THIS LINK a third grader could install XP properly.... just follow the directions

The recovery method worked but there were no back up files to restore to. And the only other options were to restore to factory defauls :-\ or from a cd/dvd which if i had i would be here so I'll have to try one of those other methods. I was trying to fix it without sending or waiting for acer to send anything because she needed some files off of it by Monday.

Oh well though. Thanx for the help bro If I cant get a copy of vista by the end of the day I'm sending it to acer its still under warrenty so that was always an option just a last resort. But thanx again.

that recovery method should restore it from the HDD's hidden partition and make it just like it was when you first bought it... just restore to factory defaults... by pressing ALT + F10 at the ACER SCREEN

Pull the hd out and slave it in to another cp if it detects pull off the
data you need then re-install to factory defaults.

Either of you wouldnt know of a program to test and repair bad ram would you? I download one called memtest86 that runs on boot but the time it takes is insane -_- The computer I'm using atm has this problem and I'm too lazy to buy new ram for it I'd rather see if i cant fix it b4 i do so. And I just bought a labtop yesterday off tigerdirect so once I get it I wont be using this one as much. I just cant play games because of it atm -_- aside from yahoo I mis warcraft

if there is data you need to save DON'T SEND IT TO ACER until you have backed that data up...

what i would do is buy a CHEAP USB HDD ENCLOUSER the one at that site is $8,, and they work great... i have 4 of them.

but you can remove the HDD from the laptop,, insert it in the enclosuer, and then plug up to any PC with a USB port, and backup the data or the entire HDD if you wish...

i've just seen too many people send in machines with valuable data that they didn't backup... and then they get a PC back with a factory fresh image,, and all that data gone!!

The only data of importance on the HDD is school work she needs by Monday. Since I wouldnt be able to get it off the drive that fast deleting everything isnt of any concern.

I did try the recovery option and restore it back to factory settings but I ended up getting an error while it was installing. I'm not sure how far along it got. It startedthe restore and was at 0% and I checked back about 30 minutes later and it had gotten an error.

    Restore failed - reason 0xd000000d
    press ok to restart

And now its worse then before. It freezes on load. It gets passed the acer screen and stays on the black loading screen the cursur continues to flash but it doesnt get anywhere. I cant even get back into the recovery because it does the same thing. It freezes on the following screen so its not loading anything. Setup is the only thing i can get into now.

try the FACTORY RESTORE a few more times.... buy 3rd time it may work completely,, i've read about it happening 2 other times...

try again and see if the error code changes??? if it does keep trying... if it doesn't change... contact ACER with info and error info... they may help.
