    Default TM 4002LMi problem

    Hi there.

A friend of mine bought one of these some time ago and recently tried to format it. but whenever he tries to install XP home (with integrated sp2) the notebook hangs and doesn't finish the instalation (also tested with diferent cds). However when he tried with a copy of xp pro (without sp1) it installed, but when he tried to isntall sp 2 (both windows update and and the standalone installer) it simply crashed after the restart.
Do any of you know of a way to fix this ?
    Thanks

when the pc crashes after doing the SP2 update, does it give a BSOD (blue screen)?

if so what is the STOP CODE#s listed on that screen?

have you tried skipping SP2 and just installing SP3? sp3 is said to have all updates from sp1, sp2 and newer updates that are "critical" or that MS thought you should have.

in this instance my first step would be to flash the BIOS with the newest version for your system.... i have a compaq that went thru the same problem.. one day i tried to use the factory restore disks that came with the system (i had used them successfully in the past),,, but on that day the system would not load XP from the restore disks or a retail XP cd either....

after many hours of frustration, i downloaded the latest BIOS and flashed the BIOS.... then i used the restore disks with no problems. i still don't understand why disks that once worked suddenly refused to install completely, but flashing the BIOS did solve the problem.

    hope that helps
