not at all...before i was hitting close to 60C in vista running firefox and that thing was burning my lap. the only physical part of the laptop that is actually warm to the touch is ... near the power plug/battery for obvious reasons, right under the CPU -- WARM not HOT and there is a spot under my left palm as i type that is pretty warm.

can't recall if you had a 5315,, if so these are the parts that you feel
EDIT: cant read sigs either LOL

under the left palm is the RAM...
next to the powerplug is the the FAN exhaust (piping the heat from CPU)
the CPU is actually almost centered around the F & G keys (bottom of laptop is warm there)

just take the fan and heatsink out regularly to keep the FINS infront of the fan clean and un obstructed

change BIOS back to v 1.33,,, and you will get correct temps

mine used to stay at 11c while browsing.. an obvious BIOS problem,,, plus 1.33 doesn't have the COLD BOOT issue

OK I just got my ebay T5450 installed in my 5315 and it works perfect.

Put in 2 GB of RAM and a 320GB HD too.

About $200 AUD all up and it goes great.

Just want to say thanks to Big O couldn't and wouldn't have done it without your PM advice and this guide.

Next step is overclocking, is it even possible?

Never had a laptop before, my desktop BIOS makes O'Clocking easy but there are no options in this one (1.33).

glad to hear my trials and tribulations as well as my learning experience helped you out... that's my whole goal of creating this thread...

i'm very happy all worked out for you so wonderfully...

as far as overclocking goes,, i think its over-rated as far as laptops go...

there are a few software options out there which attempt to overclock by changing the FBS speeds a wee bit at a time,,, but i honestly don't see you getting much benifit from the process,,,

you do much better by waiting till the T8100 or T8300 are a bit cheaper and then making another step UP...

now for a few???'s i'm trying to gather a bit of data about 5315's w/ grey sockets...

did you have the PINK CPU SOCKET??
    which OS are you running??

Good point, I'll forget O'clocking this, I've just had such success with my desktop that I was curious. This runs amazing now anyway. It was unusable stock with Vista.

T81/8300 will be a goer if they drop below $100, if I find one on ebay one day. Have they been confirmed to work?

Conveniently, the socket was pink. I used some Arctic silver 5, CPU is currently at 40 degrees C under light load (surfing only) in a warm room (high 20's). In my experience with AS5 that will drop by 3-5 degrees within a month of daily cycling on/off.

I now use XPP, SP2. That soulpass guide you linked here somewhere was a lifesaver too, all worked perfect.

I bet this thread has/gets a lot of hits, from non-forum members.

    Thanks again.

i had a report of someone sticking a T8100 in some acer model just this weekend,, but i forgot what the exact model was... let me do some checking and get back w/ you.... but i'm relatively sure ANY standard Voltage SOCKET P will work....

we got lucky since our mainboard the ACADIA is the basis for the aspire 5710 5715 5720,, and the 7720s and maybe the 7710's

so our BIOS has SUPPRORT for MUCH higher CPUs built into it
