Re: Aspire 5315 CPU Step-by-Step Upgrade Guide
Well, I'm stupid. Can't believe I did this at my age, but wonders never
cease. I claimed the T8100 wouldn't fire off so I duh thought it was a
bad chip. So I bought a T9300. Got it today and installed. It won't even
light up but the for a few seconds on the green light. What the he** ?
So made sure I had updated BIOS and I do at 1.45. For the heck of it
I reinstalled the the T8100 and only used 1 gig of memory. CRAP, it
lit off and runs like the first 5315 I did...It's obvious I had the 2 gig ram along
with the 1 gig in wrong...It's running fast with just the 1 gig. So I recall
a post here somewhere that a member had the same problem when he
installed his 2 gig and 1 gig. I can't recall how he got it to work with
3 gigs, but it's just a matter of seeing which slot likes the 2 gig and
the 1 gig.
Still don't know why the T9300 chip won't work, but I feel like such a
da** fool not checking things first. Live and learn I guess..
Thanks for reading, and the jokes on me.

By the way, got the RAM figured out, NOW running 3 gigs, T8100,
4965 wifi, and feel even more dumber than I did. Oh, man..Last edited by n2gc; 21st April 2012 at 01:32 PM.

Re: Aspire 5315 CPU Step-by-Step Upgrade Guide
Ok.Now that this 5315 is working like it should with the t 8100, I'm NOW
trying to get this t 9300 working. The BIOS is at 1.45. I can't it to boot
up. No screen, no BIOS info, no nothing,, but I can hear it running the
hard drive. Do I need to go into BIOS or do something else to try and
get this t 9300 chip working ?
Here is the info off the chip :
Intel '06
5819C06O SLAYY
FF80676T9300
2. 50 /6M/800
Does this look like a chip that should work ?
I will say that when I got this chip, it had like a "grey string" or something
kind of substance around a couple of the pins at the base of the pins.
This was suppose to be a new chip, but I have my doubts.
Any suggestions, hints, advice avail ?
Thanks for reading.

Re: Aspire 5315 CPU Step-by-Step Upgrade Guide
Well, SLAYY is definitely the right code - it is what I am using right now.
The "grey string" may be silver-based thermal paste, which could have shorted out some pins.Acer Aspire 5720ZG "Maximum Overdrive": CPU: T9300 | VGA: GT 230M, 1GB DDR3 (MXM-II, taken from a Toshiba A500) | RAM: 4GB | Display: 1920x1200 "LP154WU1-TLC1" | BIOS: V1.45 "Black edition V4.0"

Re: Aspire 5315 CPU Step-by-Step Upgrade Guide
Thank you all. I bought T7300 (800MHz bus) and it works well. But now I need to know normal temperature of intel 960 chip. Now 60-70 deg C when AfterEffects rendering. Is it normal?
And what about memory? 1GB+2GB? PC2-5300 (667Mhz) or PC2-6400 (800Mhz) ? Is 800Mhz better than 533/667Mhz or chipset can't use 800Mhz memory?

Re: Aspire 5315 CPU Step-by-Step Upgrade Guide
No. Clean up the vents if you haven't done it yet. If the problem persist I'd try undervolting, if you're lucky that will cut off 10ºC easy.
1+2 work in certain stick/slot combo though it was never officially supported by the 960GL. I belive 667Mhz was the max you can go with that chipset, 800Mhz RAM should work but it'll downclock...

Ok. Thank you. I will buy something cheaper

I cleaned when changed processor. Without pressure chip has 35ºC. Maybe GL960 needs new thermal paste? When it was opened I had seen white material, which remained on the top part not on chip. I guess it is not paste.
How make undervolting?
How maximum hdd I can use with Acer 5315? 500 or 750GB? New big hdd have 4KB sector, it is no problem?

Re: Aspire 5315 CPU Step-by-Step Upgrade Guide
For undervolting check this guide - The "Undervolting" Guide
Regarding the HDD - no idea. Check a few pages back in this thread, there should be some info on that.

Re: Aspire 5315 CPU Step-by-Step Upgrade Guide
there are no laptop specific limitations to harddrives.
any laptop should accept the same amount of storage
only if u break the 2tb limit u need 64bit windows. and perhaps uefi
booting up shoud never be a problem as long as the MBR is on the first sector
i have a 1tb drive in my pc and i dont see no reason why it wouldt work on a laptop.
