I know its 2gig and 1 gig but is 533mhz or 633. I want to order 2 and 1 but i want to know exactly what to order. If I look up acer 5315 they will send me the 533 wich is limited to to 533mhz and my new cpu goes up to 833. Thank you in advance.

The 5315 can handle socket P cpus with a fsb up to 800Mhz.

It can handle memory of either 533 or 667Mhz.

If you put in dissimilar memory, it will clock the memory at the lower speed.

You should be able to use 800Mhz memory too, but it will be downclocked to a speed the 965 chipset can support. (ie 667 or 533Mhz)

    Good luck

Anyone have any problems with the ethernet port on their 5315s? About 3 days ago, the cable no longer clicks into place and is constantly falling out. I know it's not the cable because it still has its little tab and I've also tried 3 other cables (including one brand new one I bought to test this) so that means somethings up with the port. It still connects perfectly fine via the port but the loose connection is annoying (especially since we don't have wireless at university and I need to be hard-wired -_-).

Any fix-it ideas or should I just learn to deal with it while at school (or get a USB to ethernet adapter).

    From tech stuff

Can somebody tell me how do I know if the processor's both cores are working properly? I have the t8300 it is faster but when antivirus runs on the back ground or have 3 programs open it slows down tremendously.

Are you still using only 1 gig of ram? If so I bet that is to blame. On Vista & W7 you can use task manager to moniter cpu and ram usage. Just click performance tab it should have two graphs for cpu (one for each core) and one for ram. If your using Xp I can't remember what all it displays.

ok I check task manager and it shows 812 memory and 52% cpu usage
I am using 1gig and should receive the 2gig today will report back the results. Thanks.

    NetRolller,
I have just receintly acquired a 5315 from a friend and been researching this site for upgrade ideas as well as following your progress on the newly titled "BLACK EDITION 1.45" BIOS, and have several questions.

    A. Does this version have:
    1. SLICE 2.1? ... or ... SLP for XP?
    2. VT support?
    3. Hackintosh compatability?
    4. CPU voltage reduction controls?

    B. Does it require any special command line switches to flash?

    C. Does it run right straight after flashing, or do some settings need changing right away? What are the usual settings needing changes?

    D. Do you have any advice on how the newly revealed settings are used/optimized?

    E. Is this significantly different than version "H" or the next version from "dummy"?

    F. Does "dummys'" version have SLICE 2.1?

I hope I'm not asking too much here. Maybe you have another thread that has all of these answers?

    Thanks in advance

    @byghtn3:
    A.:
    1. No discussion of warez on this forum.
    2. Yes, VT support is exposed and enabled by default in Black Edition, if you have a CPU that supports it.
    3. Discussion of running Apple™ Mac OS X™ on non-Apple™ hardware is strictly prohibited and will result in a ban.
    4. No, as the reduced voltages are specific to Dummy's CPU (not just the model of it - even another CPU from the same manufacturing batch will have different tolerances).

    B. Yes, to get the PLL fixes (CPU speed displaying e.g. as 2493 MHz instead of 2500), you need to update the PEI block as well as the main (DXE) block. The easiest way to do this is via Fn+Esc.

    C. VT will be enabled right after installation; other features (like the EFI shell) need to be enabled in Setup.

    D. A few hints:
-Be sure to set USB mode to "EFI USB" (default: "Legacy USB") to get a fully functional EFI shell.
-Disabling "IST Configuration" unlocks dual-IDA. Enable it when not using dual-IDA to get better battery performance.

    E. Yes; Dummy's version does not have the MXM fixes (only relevant for 5720G and 7720G owners - 5315 and the non-G 5720/7720 has no MXM slot), the updated DSDT, the PLL spread spectrum fix, and most importantly, the EFI shell. Only his version has the downvolting mod, for reasons explained above.

    F. No discussion of warez on this forum.
    Acer Aspire 5720ZG "Maximum Overdrive": CPU: T9300 | VGA: GT 230M, 1GB DDR3 (MXM-II, taken from a Toshiba A500) | RAM: 4GB | Display: 1920x1200 "LP154WU1-TLC1" | BIOS: V1.45 "Black edition V4.0"
