Synaptics v10.2.4 modded for Acer Gemstone series
Screenshots:

Fixes/changes:
+ re-enabled Luxpad (MediaTouch) configuration
+ re-enabled red glow on record button (for 5920G)
+ retained Acer MediaTouch tab
+ added Chiralmotion and Momentum gestures
Installation:
1. Uninstall all current Synaptics drivers.
2. Restart
3. Install the modded driver.
4. Select "Install this anyway" when asked
5. Restart again
6. Make sure that under Device Manager, Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad shows version "10.2.4"

Tested on:
Vista Home Premium 32-bit, Acer Aspire 5920G
CAUTION:
Due to the nature of modded drivers, the driver will no longer be signed. I'm not sure how this will affect those with Vista 64-bit besides having to disable driver signing verification.
UPDATES:
2008-06-11: Rebuilt v10.2.4 with new gestures (derived from v11.1.1.1)
2008-04-02: Updated to the latest v10.2.4
2008-03-13: I've rebuilt the 64-bit version using the latest custom files I can get from Acer. Do try it out and let me know if it works
Known issue(s):
Illumination settings not saved after reboot (occurs in unmodded driver too)

Re: Latest Synaptics driver modded for Acer MediaTouch
PMed you, and copied my answer here:
1. Hi, I added the 3 Acer custom files under [SourceDisksFiles]
fx04.wav = 1
SynAcer.exe = 1
SynAcerCpl.cpl = 1
2. Replaced [SynMfg] with those taken from the Acer's driver
3. Added a whole chunk of Acer custom registry options at the bottom, replacing the OEM's settings. Also I added some older registry options to enable LuxPad settings page.
I'm trying to replicate what I did on the 64-bit version. But note that the driver will not be certified anymore so I'm not sure if that has a negative effect on your system. I've never tried running a 64-bit OS before so pardon me if I'm clueless about it.
UPDATE:
Here it is, let me know if it works at all
http://rapidshare.com/files/92086414...odded.exe.html
UPDATE 2:
Seems like there is an issue with the settings appearing to be reset after reboot. It's a bug with the resident utility not reading the registry settings properly (look for "FIXME" in the INF). Just go to the Control Panel and re-enable illumination if the button doesn't light up. Let's hope that Synaptics gets it fixed in the next release.Last edited by Discrucio Anima; 15th February 2008 at 01:15 PM.

Excellent work! Another way of updating drivers on my laptop =)
P.S>I'm gonna try to mod it myself looking at your solution, but if you post a tutorial here it'll even be better =)

Re: Latest Synaptics driver modded for Acer MediaTouch
That's the one with the stick figure? It's controlled by Launch Manager. Assuming that you did not modify MMKEYBD.CFG, go to Regedit:
Browse to this key:
HKLM\Software\Quanta\QtzgAcer\Settings\Buttons\My Aspire
Change Command to the path and name of the program you wish to run.
And change Command type to 1.
